The 21-day lockdown in South Africa to curb the spread of coronavirus has effectively brought social gatherings of any kind to a halt during this time. However, some people don’t take the lockdown seriously and continue to go about life as normal.

A couple in Nseleni, KwaZulu-Natal decided that their wedding day would still go forward, despite the government banning unnecessary social gatherings.

According to SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo, about 50 people gathered to witness the big day. The police received a tip-off that the wedding was happening and showed up to break it up.

The bridal couple were caught red-handed and in a video, they can be seen getting into the back of a police vehicle.

Naidoo says the couple have contravened the Disaster Management Act, and everyone that was present will be questioned.

“People are still taking chances, not realising the seriousness of this virus,”  Naidoo said.

“The prosecutor will guide us on exactly which charges will be preferred against them. I don’t think we can be expecting any explanation from them at this point in time unless we have spoken to the senior prosecutor.”

Binnelanders actor and Survivor SA winner of 2011, Hykie Berg has said ‘I do’ just before lockdown descended upon the nation.

His now wife Gerridene, a lawyer, was radiant and the epitome of joy on their big day. The pair tied the knot on the Serengeti golf estate in Kempton Park.

Hykie lovingly teases that he really does deserve to marry her by now, since he has proposed to her seven times! Every time, Gerridene found a reason to say no, including that he hasn’t asked her parents yet, he hadn’t bought a ring yet or the time simply wasn’t right. Hykie was adamant, however, and kept asking. In June of 2019, after being together for 10 months, she finally said yes!

Gerridene wore a romantic beaded white dress with a train and thin shoulder straps.

Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell said ‘I do’ in a private ceremony at the Australia Zoo on March 25, attended only by her mother, brother and Steve’s best man. While their big day featured a special tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin, there was another special tribute to her mother, Terri.

Bindi Irwin’s wedding dress was designed to mimic the one her mother wore to marry Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin.

“I wanted something very similar because I’ve admired [my mom’s] dress since I was tiny,” Bindi told People Magazine. “When I was about 12 years old, I put on mum’s wedding dress and it was a really, really special… it’s over 50 years old because it’s been in the family for that long.”

As the original dress did not fit her and was too old to be altered, the next best solution was to have a new one designed in its image.

The second she saw the dress, Bindi knew it was the one.

“It was just perfect, I said, ‘Oh my goodness, that’s the dress,’ and we all started crying again.”

The dresses sunflower lace print sleeves also reminded Bindi of her father.

“When we would go on projects and drives together, we’d often drive through these huge sunflower fields in the middle of nowhere and we always stopped to take them in,” she explains. “[The dress] was really special and beautiful.”

We tune in week after week, episode after episode to follow the lives of fictional characters, so it’s natural that we would develop some feelings toward them. Living in the golden age of television, there are so many iconic, memorable tv couples giving us absolute couple goals.

Here are a few of our favourite smallscreen couples:

Fran Fine and Mr. Sheffield – The Nanny

From the beginning, the chemistry between nanny Fran and Mr. Sheffield was undeniable. Fans waited with baited breath for the pair to realise they were madly in love with each other and it was worth every second when they finally got together in the sixth season.

Jim and Pam – The Office

Although it took them ages, once Jim and Pam stopped pining for each other across the office and finally got together, it’s fair to say every viewer breathed a sigh of relief. Jim and Pam’s relationship started off a friendship, and they continued that mutual respect for each other throughout.

Ben and Leslie – Parks and Recreation

With her infective positivity and bright exuberance, who would have thought Leslie Knope could get any happier? Ben made her shine even brighter, always supporting her goals. We love how their relationship subtly reversed gender norms and avoided drama tropes.

    Dre and Rainbow – Blackish

This pair are somehow able to handle anything that comes their way, and often come out of situations stronger. We love that their ridiculous, sometimes camp relationship still feels real and authentic, and we especially love how they address societal issues and embrace different viewpoints.

Bob and Linda – Bob’s Burgers

Happy-go-lucky and excitable Linda seems to be the polar oppopsite of square, dependable Bob, but that’s what makes this animated couple so special. They bring out the best in each other, and somehow keep their incredibly quirky yet lovable family together.

    Kurt and Blaine – Glee

The original teenage dream, Kurt and Blaine had Gleeks the world over clutching their chests whenever they sang together. Besides representing LBGTQIA+ love equally and on mainstream television, this couple were eternally supportive of each other’s goals.

Glenn and Maggie – The Walking Dead

The zombie apocolypse seems like a bad time to start a relationship, but somehow Glenn and Maggie make it work. Fan-favourites ever since they got together, this pair gave viewers happiness amongst the grimness of the zombie storyline.

Beth and Randall – This is Us

Beth and Randall seem to be the strongest couple on This Is Us. The pair constantly support each other, even when they don’t agree with what the other wants. Despite having rocky moments, they always end up on top and remain committed to each other as well as being present, positive parents.

It’s a stressful time for the world right now. As the days progress, we become more and more uncertain of what’s happening. In times like these, it’s even more important to take care of yourself.

Having a pamper day may seem unimportant and unnecessary, but doing small things for yourself can help improve your mood and mindset. To relax and unwind, here’s how you can spoil yourself from the comfort of your own home.

    Get rid of electronic distractions:

The constant ping of your cellphone will detract from your “treat yo’self” day, so best switch it off for now. By switching off your phone, you also allow your mind to switch off. The news can be quite heavy nowadays, and the constant barrage of bad news in particular can unknowingly add anxiety to your day. Give your mind a little holiday.

Make sure to let your people know that you’ll be switching your phone off for the day so that no one is worried about your lack of replies. If necessary, set up an ‘out of office’ automation so that your work contacts know you cannot be reached.

    Set the scene:

Sometimes the right vibe is all you need. Before getting to the good stuff, the quickest way to brighten. mood is by cleaning the room you plan on relaxing in. The act of cleaning in itself relaxes some, but the key part of this is the result. With a clean, organised space, your mind will feel more at ease and less distracted.

Now that the chores are done, let’s have some fun! Throw on your favourite album or playlist, get into your comfiest sweats and maybe even light some candles.

    A luxurious bubble bath:

Baths are truly magical. If you’re lucky enough to have a bath, make sure to dedicate an hour of your time to soak in it. Pour in some bubble bath or a bath bomb for extra luxury, and settle down with a good book or magazine. Throw in some rose petals for an extra special touch.

No bubble bath or bath bomb? Make your own! Mix a cup of liquid body wash, 1/4 cup pure vegetable glycerin, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and essential oils of your choice to get the bubbles going.

    Homemade facemask:

If you were too distracted panic buying toilet paper to buy face masks, don’t worry. There are so many easy and natural masks you can quickly whip up at home.

Typical homemade face mask ingredients include greek yoghurt, banana, honey, olive oil and avocados as bases, which you probably already have at home anyway. Customise with other ingredients like coffee, cinnamon, pumpkin or aloe vera or sugar to create masks for whatever finish you desire.

50 years of marriage is a huge milestone, one that is worthy of a big celebration. However, when this couple’s plans were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their family stepped up to make sure their day was memorable while still maintaining a safe social distance.

Dan and Janice Kauffman from Ohio had planned an anniversary dinner to honour their relationship with all their family and friends. However, the elderly couple were forced to give up their plans as the coronavirus spread worsened in America.

The couple had to self-quarantine to avoid contracting the virus, meaning physical contact with their family was cut off.

This couple’s family could not let the anniversary pass by without doing anything. They decided to make a beautiful tribute to Dan and Janice. Standing in small family groupings, they held hand-made signs and cheered on the patriarch and matriarch of the family while performing for them. One family member serenaded the couple with a guitar performance and one child played the violin for his grandparents.

Julia Luckett and Nick Pierce wanted their best friend to be part of their special day. Zhivago (their dog) has been part of their little family for three years, and they weren’t about to get married without him.

So they made him the photographer! “We knew we wanted to incorporate him into the wedding somehow, but he’s definitely a very adventurous and spirited dog,” Luckett told Insider.  “It just seemed like an amazing idea that’s really quirky.” They tied a GoPro to his collar, so all Zhivago had to do was be around them.

“For the whole portion that has cocktail hour, he’s just running from person to person and getting snacks and treats from everyone,” Luckett added. “There’s 10 minutes of footage where he’s just hanging out with one person who’s feeding him cheese off of the appetizer table.”

What a clever idea, especially if you’re getting married at home during lockdown and can’t get a photographer.
