On your wedding day, everything is a big deal – including the shoes hiding beneath your gorgeous gown. Don’t sigh with relief after the arduous dress-choosing task is complete, you still have your feet to think about. Ahead lies a world of options…

There are a number of factors to consider before choosing your shoe, here are our key things to keep in mind:

    Comfort:

You’re gonna wear these shoes all day, so make sure they’re actually comfortable. And by this, we mean you’re able to walk in them and stand for hours at a time without feeling like your toes are screaming for help. If you’re not used to wearing stilettos, a block heel is perfect to complete the look without the pressure on your heel.

    Location and weather:

Having a beach wedding? Stilletto heels may sink into the sand. On the other hand, sneakers maybe a touch too informal for a grand ballroom. It’s important to keep your wedding venue in mind when picking your shoes, as it will go hand in hand with making sure you’re comfortable. Don’t neglect to consider the weather, as you don’t want your toes to freeze off in open shoes during your winter wedding.

    Your dress:

The length and cut of your dress will greatly determine the style of your shoe and how visible you want it to be. A tea-length or short gown means your feet will be on display, so you have the option of going for a fun heel. Alternatively, a floor-sweeping gown will cover your feet, so the style of shoe is not as important. Make sure to take your shoes with you when going for a dress fitting to avoid a hemline that is too short.

    Price:

Arguably one of the most important factors is sticking to your budget. You don’t want to break the bank on a shoe you might not wear again, so remember to set some boundaries before you go shoe shopping.

Shoe shopping is one of the favourite parts of getting ready for the wedding day. The options are endless. If you want a soft romantic look for the day, consider shoes with bows.

They can be dainty and cute or bold and brazen – we love ’em all! And, we’ll let you in on a little secret: your shoes don’t have to be white. Take a look at these stunning heels accessorised with bows to lend them a feminine feel.

The new year is here and with it,  new trends. Nail art is not new but these absolutely abstract designs are. Forget plain. Solid colours are so last year.

The 2021 nail scene is all about bold, splashy designs, but nowhere near the cutesy flowers and butterflies we had in the early 2000s. Think of your nails as a canvas for true modern art. The colour scheme is up to you, from nude to bright to pastel. Flowy lines, abstract facial outlines, and paintbrush strokes are all the rage.

Here are some of the hottest new trends we can’t get over.

As you look through your closet trying to find the perfect dress to wear to a wedding, there are some things that you need to be mindful of.

Never mind the style of your outfit, it is basic etiquette to avoid certain colours.

If you are not sure what those are, here are five colours you should avoid wearing.

    White

80% of brides wear white to their wedding, and it’s important that a bride stands out on her special day. You do not want to look like you’re trying to upstage her. Only wear white when the bride has specifically asked guest to.

    Glitter (gold or anything metallic)

If not white, the bride I most likely to wear a champagne-coloured dress, which you won’t know until you see her.

To stay on the safe side, avoid ensembles that are predominantly gold or champagne-colored.

    The color the bridesmaids wear

If you can, ask the bride for a heads-up on what color the bridesmaids’ dresses are so you won’t look like the one that wasn’t included.

If you don’t know the bride or any of the bridesmaids, use the wedding invitation as a clue—usually, an invite is designed to match a wedding’s colour palette.

    Overly bright colours

Again, this could mean that you want the spotlight to be on you. Imagine rocking up wearing a neon dress. When choosing a bright colour, consider the season and where the wedding is going to be held.

    Denim

This colour (fabric) comes across as too casual for a wedding. You can get away with wearing denim if it is a denim jacket as a coverup for a cold-weather event.

There is no rule that says you can’t look sexy on your big day. Bold brides are encouraged to show some skin with a daring dress that oozes sex appeal.

Show off your favourite assets in a sexy wedding gown. From a plunging neckline to an open back or thigh-high slit, you can achieve this look in multiple ways.

Here are a few slinky numbers we are loving:

Unsure of what suit will fit you best? It’s important to choose the right style and wear what flatters your shape most. Looking good is guaranteed to make you feel good!

Take a look at these tips and tricks to find the perfect fit for you.

    Slender and tall

Tall men often have trouble finding pants that cover their ankles completely. Make sure your pants are the right length, as pants that are too short will seem skimpy. Alternatively, you cold opt for ankle grazers which are meant to be shorter and end just above the ankles. If you are slim and want to add more texture to your shape, opt for a blazer with padded shoulders. Dark colours work well with taller postures.

    Muscular

If you are a fitness enthusiast and have the muscles to prove it, you could possibly wear any style and rock it. However, remember to choose the right size. Buying too small to enhance your muscles is not smart. You will feel uncomfortable and there is always the risk of popping buttons.  The correct size will set you off just fine.

    Short and bulky

Go for smooth textures, without too many bells and whistles. The idea is to make you look taller, so opt for vertical stripes or buttoned blazers. Make sure the pant legs are not too long and don’t scrunch at the bottom. Rather get them hemmed if you can’t find a size that fits the waist and legs equally well.

    Slender and short

If you have a small frame, you get to go all out. Lighter colours will make you appear larger and stylish accessories will be pleasing to the eye. A bit of extra shoulder padding will also go a long way, and keep an eye out for shoes with a slightly raised sole.

    Large

If you are more man than muscle, fret not. Dress smartly in slimming colours like navy and charcoal, and avoid attracting attention to your waistline. Vests are flattering and will conceal any insecurities. Make sure your pants fit nice and snug, not baggy as that will make you seem bigger. The right size is key.

Tradition dictates that only the bride can wear white on her big day. Well, it’s 2020 and rules are meant to be broken!

The tradition of brides wearing white began with Queen Victoria back in 1840, and has been an accepted and essential part of weddings ever since. However, many brides are skipping tradition and creating memorable weddings following their own tastes on desires. Some opt to not even wear white.

Why not take it one step further and have your bridal party dress in white too?  The key to pulling off this trend is contrast. Even though everyone is wearing white, guests should immediately be able to tell who the bride is. Keep enough difference between your dress and your bridesmaid dresses so that the roles are clear.

Here are some beautiful bridal parties wearing white and making a statement.

When crafting a wedding look, many brides keep their culture close to their heart. For Muslim women who choose to wear a hijab in everyday life, it seems natural to wear one on their big day too.

A hijab is a headscarf worn by Muslim women. It covers the hair, neck and upper chest in accordance with Islamic tradition. Wearing a hijab is not compulsory, which is why it is a choice for women to wear one from puberty onwards.

Those who do choose to wear one do so stylishly. Many work it into their personal style, and your wedding look should be no different. Customise your bridal look by using the detail on your dress to adorn your hijab. From lace to beads and pearls to tulle, anything goes.

Here are some wonderful hijabi brides to inspire you:

The famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is an international icon. She has been immortalised not only for her paintings, but also for her fashion choices. She was deeply inspired by her country’s culture, and she employed the native style to explore questions of identity and beauty.

The painter was no stranger to love and marriage. She married Diego Rivera, also a painter, in 1929. He was 20 years her senior. Both were allegedly unfaithful and divorced in 1940, then remarried later that year. They remained married until her death in 1954.

“Frida Kahlo’s hauntingly beautiful face, broken body, and bright Tehuana costumes have become the trademark of Mexican femininity. Images of her bat-wing brows, moustache, and clunky ethnic jewelry are as familiar in Mexico as Marilyn’s pout and puffed-up white dress are in the U.S.,” reports The New York Times.

If you are an artist, art enthusiast or simply fascinated by the legendary artist’s bold style and love of colour, here are some ways to incorporate her famous look into your wedding.

Remember that you can choose elements that work for you and translate them into modern-day similarities. Adapt her strong traditionally Mexican look to your own culture, personality and fashion taste as a way to respect foreign culture and not appropriate it by copying it exactly.

Take some inspiration from these tips.

    The dress

This look calls for an off-shoulder with sleeves. Long sleeves go well, but short sleeves will work too. Go for lots of lace and flowing fabrics for a romantic look!

    The hair

Kahlo’s extravagant hairdos are world famous. She painted hundreds of self portraits, many of her wearing a bold flower crown in an updo. Red, yellow and organge are strong colours that suited her personality and style well.  Add a braid on top to make a statement!

    The makeup

As with the flower crown, go for bigger and bolder. Don’t stray away from bright red lips and of course, the iconic thick black eyebrows. A dab of bronzer will finish off the look.

    The jewellery

Over the top and dramatic. Go for chandelier earrings and a beaded necklace and bangles! Mexican fashion embraces colour, size and femininity. Combine them selectively for a sophisticated look, but don’t be afraid to use layers.

Bridesmaids dresses can be a tricky one. There are many boxes to tick. You want your ladies to feel comfortable, have them fit in with the colour scheme, look great but not steal your thunder, and so it goes.

We may have found the solution in the humble colour of the dove. Grey, in all its tones, is one of the most versatile colours there is to work with. Don’t be fooled into thinking it is dull. Dove grey is soft, romantic and understated yet pretty.

Take a look at these lovely dresses for some inspiration and let your bridesmaids spread their wings.
