There’s nothing quite like the feeling of freedom that comes with the open road – and there’s no better person to share it with than your new spouse. Just married, chasing adventure with good music, scenic stops, and uninterrupted conversation? That’s honeymoon magic.

If you’re planning a honeymoon road trip, here are a few things to keep in mind before you hit the highway.

    Avoid Breakdowns and Breakouts

Before you embark on your journey, make sure your car is properly serviced – especially the filters, fluid levels, brakes, tyres, belts, oil, and water. Check that your tyre pressure is correct and inspect your wiper blades, indicators, brake lights, and headlights.

If you’re travelling through different climates or remote areas, ensure your vehicle is prepared for changing weather conditions. And if you’re road-tripping during a South African summer, don’t forget to check the air conditioner – nothing kills romance faster than being stuck in traffic in unbearable heat.

It’s also worth downloading offline maps ahead of time in case signal drops along your route.

    Clean Up, Stock Up

There’s no better way to begin your honeymoon than in a freshly cleaned car. Turn the pre-trip prep into part of the fun with a quick car wash date before departure.

Stock up on snacks, padkos, and plenty of water – buying from grocery stores beforehand is usually far cheaper than relying on petrol station convenience stops. Pack blankets and pillows for extra comfort, especially if one of you wants to nap between destinations.

Finally, don’t skip the emergency kit. Include essentials like:

    • A flashlight and extra batteries
    • Jumper cables
    • A first aid kit
    • Spare tyre and tyre repair kit
    • Portable phone charger or power bank
    • Emergency contact numbers
    • Being over-prepared is always better than being stranded.

    If You’re Renting

If you’re renting a car, companies like Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Thrifty offer a variety of vehicle options and pickup locations.

Look out for package deals that combine flights, accommodation, and car rental – they can save you a significant amount on honeymoon costs.

If you’re renting abroad, check whether your destination requires an International Driving Permit (IDP). It’s also important to note that manual transmission vehicles are still standard in many countries. If you’re used to driving automatic, reserve one well in advance, as availability can be limited and rates are often higher.

And yes – screenshot or print your booking confirmation. Airport Wi-Fi has a habit of failing exactly when you need it most.

    Are We There Yet?

Planning the time spent in the car together can be just as important as planning the destinations themselves. A long drive can either become part of the adventure – or feel very, very long.

Prepare some entertainment ahead of time to keep the energy fun and relaxed. Think curated playlists, nostalgic singalongs, podcasts, audiobooks, or even a few classic road-trip games.

Here are a few ideas to make the journey more memorable:

    • Car games

They’re not just for kids. Classics like I Spy or the licence plate game are surprisingly entertaining when the kilometres start blending.

    • Story time

Take turns reading aloud from a book, sharing funny memories, or even telling each other stories you’ve never heard before.

    • Create an on-the-road scrapbook

Snap photos of quirky roadside stops, beautiful scenery, and funny moments along the way. The blurry selfies and petrol station coffee runs often become the best memories later.

    • Tunes for the trail

A good playlist can completely shape the mood of a road trip. Create one together before you leave, blending both your favourites with songs that feel like the start of a new chapter.

    The journey is the honeymoon

A honeymoon road trip isn’t about rushing from one destination to the next – it’s about the moments in between. The unexpected stops, terrible padkos combinations, inside jokes, scenic detours, and quiet conversations are often the memories that last the longest.

So, leave a little room for spontaneity, keep your itinerary flexible, and enjoy the ride together. After all, the best love stories rarely stick perfectly to the route.

When it comes to finding “the one” and having that movie-magic moment where your bridesmaids break into a sob after just one look of you in the perfect wedding dress, it all comes down to finding the right shape for your body. We’ve turned to the experts for this one, putting our ear close to the ground and listening to the suggestions that dress designers may have for some potential gown stumbling blocks.

You’re fuller in the hip/thigh area:

Choose something you are comfortable in. If you are confident and love your curves, then there are ways to make a fitted dress accentuate all the right areas. If you are more conservative or feel self-conscious, then go with something that cinches in at the waist and naturally flows out from there.

You have larger than average breasts:

Get a fully structured bustier if your bust needs that lift and support, or a daring plunge for those girls stay in place.

    You are petite

If you are going for lace, something with smaller patterns would be best. If not, choose something streamlined and gorgeous! Even the princess look can work, if done right.

You don’t look good in classic white or ivory

Nude, toffee and sand shades are hot this season! Oyster is also a wonderful shade that suits a variety of skin tones.

You’re not too keen on exposing a lot of skin

A beautiful, hand-engineered, appliquéd illusion sleeve is the best of both worlds!

Ryan Reynolds may be married to Blake Lively, but he’s the internet’s husband now. The Marvel actor has left women around the internet swooning after his adorable reaction to Blake’s colour-changing Versace dress.

And deservedly so. The dress is a beautiful ode to the Statue of Liberty and the theme for the Gala titled: “Guilded Glamour.”

The dress is perfect, mesmerising, beautiful, and a shiny example of glamour:

The pictures of the dress “changing colour” is equally as beautiful, it’s hard not to see why anyone would have an awe-inspiring reaction:

While it would’ve been incredible to see a dress changing colour before our  eyes, it was actually a top layer that was expertly removed by a crew of handy individuals half way up the stairs.

Here’s a peek at the stunning reveal:

A summer honeymoon spent by the beach is the perfect way to unwind after a stressful few months of wedding planning. However, you don’t want to overpack or spend too much on multiple outfits that will break the bank.

We’ve got the perfect solution. Tegan Glen, a Cape Town-based photographer, created her brand Summer Glen after struggling for many years to find the perfect fitting swimsuit (like many) and took it on herself to design a swim piece that would both look sexy and support women.

After months of research and careful consideration to several women’s swimwear concerns, the “Infinite” range was born.

    The design:

This inventive suit features multi-way straps allowing one to style their swimsuit for any occasion. Due to the adjustable straps, the swimsuit supports A-DD cup sizes, making it even more size-inclusive.

The high leg style avoids cutting over the hips and lengthens legs, providing a more flattering fit. Double lining in the black and triple lining in the coral creates a comfortable, supportive swimsuit and avoids any possibility of sheerness.

    Sustainability:

A fashionable suit made with sustainability in mind, what more could you want? The swimsuit fabric is made from Repreve fabric, which is created from recycled plastic. All tags are made from recycled paper, and ribbon is used to attach tags rather than plastic.

The brand also offers scrunchies made from fabric offcuts to avoid unnecessary waste during production.

Online orders are couriered in mailer bags made from cornstarch. Customers can put the bags in their compost heap immediately.

Planning your wedding is definitely a stressful task, so the honeymoon might not even be an aspect you’re focused on right now, however, there is one additional task you will have to accomplish before racing off to you lush honeymoon – packing. If you’re headed to the tropics you will probably be living in your bathing suit and a cover-up, but dining at a restaurant or perhaps dancing or exploring may also be on the cards.

You’ll probably want to take at least two swimsuits. This way you can alternate them. To have even more options, look for mix and match bikini styles, so you can get four looks out of two suits. If you’re not a fan of bikinis, try a one-piece, which is perfect for lounging around, going for a dip, and can even double as a bodysuit! You’ll also want to pack a swimsuit that you’re comfortable with wearing in a spa.

For the honeymoon activities other than lounging by the beach/pool, you will need a maxi dress or skirt that you can dress up or down. Cover-ups are a necessity as you can easily transition from the beach to dinner and drinks – think beautiful wraps or sarongs. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, but this is also the perfect time to play around with those beautiful swimsuits that have been hiding in your closet!

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are luxuriating in the Maldives for their honeymoon after their second wedding. The couple were first wed in an impromptu Vegas-style ceremony on May 1 2019, the same day as the Billboard Music Awards. They made a little elopement to a chapel, and the ceremony was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.

On June 29, the two had another wedding – this time planned and a little more conventional – and tied the knot again, in front of family and friends. The romantic ceremony was held in a picturesque chateau in the south of France. Sophie wore a beautiful Nicholas Ghesquière wedding gown from Louis Vuitton. The beautiful silk and lace dress included an open back, traditional veil, plunge line neck and lace sleeves. Joe opted for a Berluti, black tuxedo designed by Kris Van Assche.

The details are kept to a minimum though, as Sophie stated that she wanted to keep things private.

After a wedding for the books, of course, comes the intimate honeymoon. The (kind-of) newlyweds are enjoying their honeymoon at one of the Soneva Fushi beachfront villas on Kunfunadhoo Island.

The long-awaited wedding of Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner and musician Joe Jonas finally took place in June and we couldn’t help swoon over the stunning Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquière wedding dress she wore.

Rumour has it the intricately detailed work of art took over 10 embroiders working for 1 050 hours on 14 metres of fabric to finally complete the immaculate creation.

Each panel of the dress was decorated with 5 400 crystal beads complimented by 50 400 white beads with a veil to match – which also took 48 hours to hand embroider.

The dress has a classic design with long sheer fitted sleeves, a thick waistband and plunging V-neckline to accentuate Sophie’s figure.

The beautiful bride paired her dress with a cascading white bouquet and a natural make up look with loose hair.

Ghesquière designed the custom wedding dress for Sophie, complete with flower-embroidered tulle and silk gazar.

A cut out back was included in the one-of-a-kind design as well as a lace-trimmed veil with minute decorative ornamental needlework.

The gorgeous couple were wed in a French chateau and a general theme of French flair was certainly present throughout the affair.

It goes without saying that Sophie’s stylish assumable was the envy of brides-to-be everywhere as she happily made her way down the isle. We can’t all afford Louis Vuitton wedding gowns but we can most certainly dream, drool and pin it on our Pinterest boards.

Whether you and your SO are heading for a destination honeymoon or staying local, we’re here to guide you into packing the beauty essentials you need, no matter the weather.

    SUNSCREEN

Regardless of where you’re heading, this should be the first beauty item you pack. The intensity of the sun and the effect it will have on your skin can differ from what you’re used to at home. Make sure you pack a broad spectrum formula to make sure you’re covered, no matter the conditions.

    WATERPROOF MAKE-UP

If you’re headed to the tropics and know you’ll need a little bit of extra help, rather opt for waterproof make-up to avoid ending up with panda eyes while you’re lounging poolside. Waterproof mascara, foundation and/or concealer and a light brown eyeliner that can double as a brow pencil are you make-up bag staples.

    LIPS

While you’re sipping on cocktails and taking those perfect selfies, you want your lips to look rosy and healthy. Use a lip balm with an added SPF that will leave your lips hydrated and healthy, with an easy touch-up application. There’s nothing worse than uncomfortably dry and chapped lips while you’re on holiday so make sure they stay kiss-worthy and worry-free. Add a striking lipstick for dinner, and voila!

    MULTI-TASKERS

If you’re leaning towards natural make-up looks that require minimal effort, try to pack products that have multiple functions. For example, a lip stain that doubles as a cheek stain (this also has maximum staying power), a clear mascara that doubles as a brow gel, and a shimmery bronzer that you can also use as an eyeshadow. Also look for eyeshadow and blusher/bronzer/highlighter palettes with versatile shades instead of having to pack multiple shades individually.

    TRAVEL FRAGRANCE

Most reputable brands offer travel-sized fragrances, which makes going through customs a breeze. Buy one in your everyday signature fragrance, or in your wedding fragrance, to keep you smelling pretty all day. And don’t forget your deodorant!

    SKIN SAVERS

Be ready for any skin emergency (sunburn, dehydration or blemishes) with a mask suitable to those specific needs. Sheet masks are oh-so-handy and lightweight when it comes to packing. Keep a hydrating or brightening mask in your carry-on for the plane, and purifying and soothing option for the remainder of your trip.

    HAIR

Natural beach waves are one thing, but keeping your hair from looking brittle is another. The same goes for snowier conditions. Humid or dry air can be damaging, so take a treatment or oil with you to treat your hair after washing it. Even better, use a moisturising treatment that can double as a styling product without having to use heat on your hair. No damage involved!

    OILS

From head to toe, you can find a suitable oil to soothe, treat and nourish your skin, and to get your glow on all at the same time. A versatile oil (especially a dry oil such as rosehip) can treat a multitude of issues you might have. Coconut oil is another all-rounder when it comes to moisturising and can even be used as shaving lotion and make-up remover if you’re in a pickle.
