The latest wedding trend: Touch-up stations

It might sound unnecessary, or even a little vain but we’re not here to judge. All we know is, touch-up stations are becoming a thing! A touch up beauty station is a great idea for a bridal party that wants to have all the fun but still be photo ready at a moment’s notice.

Touch-up stations are literally just that: stations set up at your wedding venue for any necessary make-up touch-ups.

Depending on the wedding venue, it can be set up in the bathrooms or a neutral space. There are a few options you can consider:

You can easily (and cheaply) just create a private corner by a mirror for everyone who wants to bring their necessities and leave it there for the day.

You can also dedicate a whole pop-up stand or mobile home and supply all the items yourself.

 

There are even companies who rent out mobile beauty bars and can send you stylists who are ready for the quick touch-up or the emergency sewing kit.


 
Here are some essentials your station should include:

– Tissues
– Cotton wool
– Ear buds
– Make-up remover
– Lip balm (get one that uses finger application for hygiene reasons)
– Mascara
– Hair comb (add a cleaning product for guests to clean it after use)
– Hairspray
– Anti-perspirant
– Tampons/sanitary pads
– Needles and thread
– Hand lotion

Taylor Swift superfan throws ‘Lover’ themed wedding

It’s a love story. Baby, just say yes. This bride took her idol Taylor Swift’s words to heart when she got engaged to her lover. Fast forward to their wedding day, superfan Erin Seeherman decided to honour the famous musican with a Lover– themed wedding.

Seeherman’s wildest dreams came true when Swift herself reached out to congratulate them.

Seeherman has been a Swiftie for years. In 2016, she met her future husband Moshe Berman, and their love story involved Swift from the jump. Seeherman was in the process of replicating one of Swift’s tour costumes for a Halloween costume at the time and Berman quickly came on board to assist.

Over the course of their relationship, they bonded over Seeherman’s love for Taylor Swift. So much so that Berman proposed to Seeherman at a Taylor Swift concert in 2018.

To keep the theme going, the couple knew they had to involve Swift’s music in their wedding festivities. They settled on creating a wedding theme based on Swift’s latest studio album, Lover.

Various homages to Swift decorated the wedding venue, from the Lover album art colour scheme to place cards that featured origami paper rings with paper butterflies attached.

Swift’s music played throughout the day. Seeherman walked down the aisle to Swift’s “Call It What You Want”, the very same song that played when Berman proposed to Seeherman. Their first dance was appropriately set to Swift’s ‘Lover’.

Seeherman has been sharing images of the wedding to her personal Twitter account, which caught the eye of Swift herself.

Seeherman couldn’t believe her eyes when her heroine responded to her.

“I was really shocked,” she told Billboard. “I never expected her to notice the efforts we had gone to. All the effort we put into the wedding we would have done regardless of whether we thought she might notice because we – my husband now too identifies as a huge Taylor Swift fan – are such huge fans so we were happy and excited to do this, but never really had that expectation that anything would come of it or that we would get noticed.”

In the age of celebrity, it seems like every public personality goes big with their weddings. From Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s multiple nuptial celebrations spanning two separate continents, to Kimye’s $2.8 million wedding in Italy, celebrities know how to party hard.

While some prefer to splash out on their big day, others desire a more low-key, understated experience. These famous couples decide to ditch the dramatics in favour of an intimate elopement.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas:

This cute couple surprised fans when they got hitched after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards in a Las Vegas chapel. The shock ceremony was attended by the other Jonas brothers and DJ Diplo, who live-streamed the nuptials via Instagram.

In another non-traditional move, the coupled exchanged ring pops instead of wedding bands.

Get Out director Jordan Peele and actress Chelsea Peretti have always been low-key with their relationship and their wedding was no different. They eloped to the mountains without breathing a word about it to anyone. Their only wedding guest: their pet dog.

“We went to Big Sur, ever heard of it?” she joked on late night talk show, Conan. “It’s beautiful—oceans, mountains. We were married by a woman named Soaring, like soaring above the clouds, and our dog was there, and that was it. No guests.”

Engagement parties: Yay or nay?

Getting engaged is a big deal. We get it. When your loved one pops the question, or says yes, all you want to do is shout it out to the world. Adventure awaits. But how practical are engagement parties really?

The upside:

FUN

There’s really not much to explain here. It’s a good time. You get to celebrate this special time in your life with people you care about!

Sharing stories

It’s natural that everyone will want to know how it happened, who asked whom and how. Was it a grand gesture or a private moment? It’s all pretty exciting. So instead of having to answer a bunch of questions over and over, it’s a great opportunity to tell your love story while everyone is gathered.

Show off the bling

The real reason most ladies want to throw a party! If your partner gave you a customary ring, you are bound to be super proud of it. Everyone will want to see it up close, and you will want to show it off. Sometimes, it’s okay to brag.

The downside:

The money issue

Sigh. Why is everything so darn expensive? Unless you’re a celebrity, it will probably hurt your wallet. You’re already spending money on the wedding, the honeymoon, the ring and dress… An engagement party seems like an unnecessary expense.

It can be stressful

Planning a wedding is already pretty stressful. There is a lot to do and there are many people involved, all wanting to weigh in on how it should go. You have a ton of things on your mind. Planning one more event might add to the stress and only make you anxious.

Finding the time

We know it is supposed to be about the couple, but the reality is, everyone’s busy. Supposing you and your fiancee can find an open date, all your guests might not be available. They are already putting time aside to attend the wedding itself, and it might be hard to find another date and time that suits everybody.

Yay or nay?

In conclusion, of course, it’s a personal choice so it’s up to you as a couple. However, we think it would be wise to rather put the time, money and energy towards the big day. You’ll see everyone there anyway, and those who really care will call or drop by to say congrats and share in your happiness.

Hawk swoops in as ring bearer

Josh and Andee Constine wanted a wild and beautiful destination wedding. So they flew their loved ones in from the US to Ireland. But it didn’t stop there. They got married at a castle and had a hawk bring them their rings. Yes, you read right!

Luttrellstown Castle outside of Dublin is an exquisite estate that offers an array of activities and also has a falconry that trains falcons and hawks.

“They’re very well-trained, and just gorgeous animals,” Josh said to Business Insider. “We really wanted to make sure it was done in a way that was safe for the animal, and that there was nothing about this that felt exploitative to them.We thought it would be something that would really set the wedding apart,” he added. “And make people think, ‘Wow, I’ve really been transported back to the medieval era’.”

Josh wore a leather falconry glove to protect his arm from the hawk’s talons.

The couple did say that they were slightly nervous about the idea that the bird might fly off with the rings and they’d never get them back. In fact, the venue does not guarantee anything and also does not take out insurance in case things go wrong! However, everything went smoothly and the rings were delivered safe and sound.

Sticking to the medieval theme, Andee gave Josh a custom sword engraved with the words: “Poetry. Love. Adventure. Honour.” They used the sword to cut the cake.

This unique couple is blazing a new path with their personalised wedding photoshoot. Right after these best buds married, they posed for a photoshoot while smoking a bong.

Marijuana is legal in California, where bride and groom Coral and Mio live. As cannabis activists, Coral and Mio knew it had to feature in their big day. At their October wedding in Santa Cruz, California, the bridal couple decided to ditch the traditional wedding photoshoot in favour of sparking up a bong and blowing the smoke at the camera. The resulting images were pretty dope.

Their bongs were custom designed to read ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’. Corals bouquet also featured hemp in it.

Photographer Rachel Artime was on hand to capture this moment. About the images, Rachel told Metro UK, “I’m really happy with the pictures. I love the smoke. It makes them look haunting and romantic in a weird way.”

“I’ve never had to photograph anything like this before. This is the most unconventional and non-traditional thing to happen at a wedding,” she continues. “Every wedding I’ve done is the most normal thing ever, so this is quite the experience to be photographing people literally smoking a blunt at their wedding. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before.”

The pros and cons of having a barn wedding

Have you always dreamed of having your wedding out in the farmlands? If so, you should consider looking into using a barn as your wedding venue. Barn weddings are perfect if you would like to have a rustic theme as you get the rural vibe in an indoor setting.

The location

If you are renting out a barn on a working farm, the cost will not be that high and the barn will be a blank canvas for you to decorate however you like. However, this means that you will have to rent all furniture and decor items which will bring the cost up. Another issue with the barn being on a working farm is that it is not fit to accommodate a large number of people and there will not be bathrooms nearby unless you rent.

While a barn wedding is beautiful, the work that goes into getting it ready to be used as a wedding venue could be a bit much. What many farm owners have done is actually renovate their barns to turn it into a wedding venue. This means that there will be all the basic necessities needed but the price might be significantly higher.

The vibe

What is great about this location is that it is an escape from city life and it manages to bring the outdoors in while still providing shelter and ambience. You can decorate elegantly or keep it casual. If the barn is on a working farm, it could have been used to house animals up until a day or two before your event and you will therefore need to work hard to get it cleaned so that guests with allergies don’t have any issues, and also to get rid of the smell of farm animals.

The logistics

Due to the fact that this is not specifically a wedding venue, there won’t be electrical outlets or plumbing which is a necessity for vendors. The venue won’t be climate controlled meaning that if your wedding is being held during the summer months, it will get very hot or if it’s in winter, very cold.

Parking is another factor to consider, while there will be space for guests to park on the grass, if you’d like to have your ceremony outside of the barn, the cars could take up valuable space.
