On Valentine’s Day, Emirates shared a video of a couple getting engaged on board one of their flights. According to the airline, the woman, Vasti, had always wanted to be proposed to in the air.

Her boyfriend, William, took the opportunity to pop the question while en route to Johannesburg on board an Emirates A380 flight.

William led Vasti to the First Class lounge where the Emirates cabin crew had created a romantic setting. The lights were set to red, creating a loved-up ambiance.

In the video, William can be seen speaking to Vasti, before getting on one knee. Watch the heartwarming moment below:

Deep blue is the colour of royalty, so it is no surprise a rich sapphire stone would centre Kate Middleton’s engagement ring. Once belonging to Princess Diana, this iconic ring caused sapphire sales to skyrocket in 2010 following the royal engagement announcement. Even before this proposal, however, sapphires have been adored and coveted for their intense colouring.

The name of this precious gemstone comes from the Greek word ‘sappheiros’ and the Latin word ‘saphirus’, both of which translate to mean blue. Despite the name, however, sapphires come in a range of colours from blue to yellow to pink. The only colour is cannot present as is red as it would then be considered a ruby. Naturally, blue is the most coveted colour variant.

Sapphire is one of the four main precious gemstones, including diamonds, rubies and emeralds. While found all over the world, the highest-quality and most prestigious sapphires come from Kashmir, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Montana.

The stone is believed to have healing properties, and is regarded as the stone of mental focus and order, inner vision and psychic awareness. Chakra theory also believes that sapphires help open one’s third eye, thus allowing wisdom and insight to enter.

This stone is much loved by celebrities such as Princess Diana, Penelope Cruz and Elizabeth Taylor.

Coloured stones have been trending in the engagement world for the past few years, and sapphire makes an excellent choice because it can double up as your ‘something blue’. When picking one out, always refer to the four Cs: colour, cut, clarity and carat.

In today’s times, you have to be creative with your proposal. This guy decided to go over-the-top, literally, with his proposal and sent an engagement ring to space.

Capt. Stuart Shippee of the 393rd Bomb Squadron at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, popped the big question to his girlfriend Marie Lisman in a very creative way by launching a weather balloon into space with a decoy engagement ring attached to it. Lisman thought they were sending a military challenge coin up with the balloon, but Shippee swopped it for a ring at the last moment.

The ring travelled a far distance, reaching a height of over 90 000 feet, about three times the cruising altitude of a 747, before bursting and plummeting back to Earth. The balloon landed in a nearby cornfield and once the group found the ring, Shippee went down on one knee with the real ring. Of course, Lisman said yes!

“When I first picked up the balloon payload, I did not see the imitation ring until I looked down and [Shippee] was on his knee,” Lisman told Military.com. “I was speechless! After the long day and difficult search for the payload I was very happy to have the ending be so special.”

Proposals are always meaningful, and it’s great to have a photographer capture that special moment. But what if Google is your photographer? One German man was surprised to discover that his epic proposal was caught on Google Maps.

32-year-old part-time farmer Steffen Schwarz proposed to his partner last May with a dramatic proposal that involved a public message and drones. Schwartz used a corn-planting machine to write a message into his two-hectare (five-acre) field in Huettenberg, central Germany that would be visible aerially. The message read “Will you marry me?” in German. Schwartz then had his girlfriend fly a drone over the field to read the message. Of course, she said yes.

“At first she couldn’t see it [the proposal] because the drone wasn’t flying high enough. But when she realised, she said yes immediately,” Schwartz told German news agency DPA.

The story would have ended there if it weren’t for Schwartz’s aunt. His relative was on Google Maps and happened to come across an image of Schwartz’s proposal!

The couple plan to marry in June 2020, and will once again pull out their drone for some epic photography.

House Bunny star Anna Faris is showing off her new sparkler. In an Instagram picture, the actress officially announced her engagement to cinematographer Michael Barrett by showcasing her giant yellow diamond ring.

Faris and Barrett have been dating since 2017, a few months after she split from ex-husband Chris Pratt. In late 2019, Faris was spotted wearing an engagement ring, and her Mom co-star Allison Janney accidentally confirmed the engagement.

The actress recently shared an image with fellow actor Jason Biggs, who was a guest on her podcast Unqualified. Her cushion-cut yellow diamond ring, however, was the star of the show.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Kathryn Money, VP of Strategy & Merchandising for Brilliant Earth says, “Anna’s beautiful ring features an estimated 3-carat yellow cushion-cut diamond surrounded by a diamond halo and set on a white gold or platinum diamond-adorned band with a subtle split shank.”

Grab the tissues for this one, you’re gonna need it. In a romantic grand gesture, Kyle enlisted the help of his fellow passengers on a flight to propose to then-girlfriend Staci 25 years ago. She was waiting for him at the airport, blissfully unaware of Kyle’s plans. He sneakily gave each person on the flight a red rose, and asked them to give it to Staci when they got off the plane. Southwest Airlines, the US airline that was in cahoots with the young man, shared the whole story on Twitter:

So, with Staci confused and an arm full of roses, Kyle was the last to give her a rose, then got on his knee and asked her to marry him. Naturally, she said yes!

Now, after 25 years of being happily married, Kyle decided it was high time he did something special to celebrate their anniversary. Again, he approached his trusted airline, and they happily obliged. This time, as they were about to leave for a flight together, Kyle told Staci he would meet her at the airport. When she got to the gate, though, Kyle was already there and had been handing disembarking passengers red roses again, which they delivered to Staci.

As the last rose was delivered, Kyle appeared, going down on his knees exactly like all those years ago and “proposed” all over again. She said yes, she still does! Watch how all the passengers played along:

And how he surprises her again after a quarter of a century of marriage:

We’re so gushy about this one, right ahead of Valentine’s day. Love springs eternal!

Everybody knows getting married is a package deal. You might adore your new spouse, but that doesn’t mean you will necessarily get along with their family. However, as much as we’d love to tell you it doesn’t matter, it does. Family is family, no matter what and building good relationships with your in-laws will make for a healthy relationship with your partner. Here are a few things to try if you’re faced with a monster-in-law.

– Don’t judge a book by its cover

This is true of all relationships. The way people seem is not always the way they are. Even if they behave in what comes across as rude or mean, it might have nothing to do with you. There might be a deeper insecurity or issue that leads to certain behaviour. Always give people the benefit of the doubt. Also remember that people have different personality types, and not everyone will always get along. That doesn’t mean you can’t be civil towards each other for the sake of your partner. Try spending some one-on-one time with the person and find common ground. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

– Stand your ground

If you have tried getting to know them better and being kind, but nothing’s changed, it might be time to stand your ground. There’s a line between being nice and getting walked over, which no one deserves. If things get so heated that they make you uncomfortable or the other person is downright condescending, you may want to set boundaries and be straight with them. Don’t compromise on your own values just to get them to like you. It’s important for them to know that they should also respect you and your beliefs, even if they don’t agree. Try to explain your point of view in a calm and open-minded manner, giving reasons for your view points.

– But not too much

That being said, always keep in mind that your relationship with your partner comes first. You don’t want to end up hurting them or worse, forcing them to choose between you and their family. If you have tried to be the bigger person, stated your take on things and set some boundaries, but the conflict is still not resolved, you might actually want to take a step back. This might include politely declining from family gatherings. It’s not worth losing your partner over a feud with your in-laws.

– Always be respectful, even if they’re not

The golden rule in every situation is respect. Accept the fact that you may never get along, even though you tried. However, and this especially applies during the “stand your ground” phase, always be respectful. That way, you don’t give them any ammunition to fight with, plus you’re showing your partner that you respect them too. Never stoop down to verbal abuse, immature games or using children as a means to manipulate their grandparents, for example. As long as the in-laws are not actually doing anything illegal or harmful, there’s no reason for you to keep your partner or children away from them. The battle is between you and them.
