It was love at first sight for Joe when he first met Sofia at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in May of 2014.

The pair got engaged on Christmas Day in  2014 after dating for six months, and they officially became husband and wife on November 22, 2015.

They had a luxurious wedding of 400 guests at The Breakers Palm Beach resort in Florida. Out of the celebrities that attended, Reese Witherspoon and Pitbull were there and the singer brought the heat to the dance floor with a performance.

Vergara wore an ivory lace-brocaded custom Zuhair Murad gown and accessories in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry as she walked down the aisle.

Five years of marriage is pretty special. Half a decade later you’re still in love and thriving, which is grounds for celebration.

Every year is a special year for a married couple, as it marks another 365 days of their union. However, each anniversary has its own special meaning, according to tradition.

The traditional fifth wedding anniversary is symbolised by wood. Trees have always represented strength and wisdom, making it fitting for this year of marriage. Rounding the five-year mark shows the durability of your relationship.

Here are some traditional wood gift ideas to give your partner:

    – A wooden clock

    – A jewellery box

    – A wooden tree swing

    – A framed picture of you two

    – Serving bowls

    – A rocking chair

    – A personalised cutting/cheese board

    – A puzzle

    – A planter box

    – A wooden map

Carrying a bridal bouquet has been a time-honoured tradition for centuries. In Ancient Rome, brides would carry flowers as they were believed to signify new beginnings, fidelity and hope of fertility.

During the Victorian Era, the act of giving and receiving flowers came to be known as an expression of love. As they were then linked to love and romance, they increasingly became incorportated into weddings.

Flowers all carry their own special meaning, although many modern brides simply opt for the ones they find the most visually pleasing. While classic white lilies or romantic red roses are always in style, we have been loving explosions of colour. Vibrant shades of pinks, yellows and blues offer so much life and personality to your bridal bouquet.

You have two options when opting for this colourful creation. Pick complementary shades of pinks, reds and oranges and calm them down with white flowers, or go big with all the primary coloured-flowers you can find.

Here are some floral bouquets to inspire your own:

One of Hollywood’s most-loved celebrity couples has a pretty sweet love story. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have been married for a decade, and are a powerhouse team.

The pair met in 2008, and it was love at first sight. Blunt was out for dinner with a friend when Krasinski walked into the same restaurant.

“We were discussing how much I was enjoying being single. And then [my friend] goes, ‘Oh, my God, there’s my friend John.’ And that was it,” Blunt told People TV.

“It was one of those things where I wasn’t really looking for a relationship and I was thinking I’m going to take my time in LA,” Krasinski told Ellen Degeneres. “Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.'”

In an interview with the Today show, Krasinski credited the hit NBC show The Office for connecting him with his wife. Prior to landing his iconic role as Jim Halpert in the series, the actor was contemplating quitting acting.

“It’s a little bit of an existential crisis after a while because I wouldn’t have met my wife, I wouldn’t have been out in LA. Truly, when I say the show has given me everything, it’s given me everything,” he said.

The pair had an unusual first date. Wanting to do something different, Krasinski decided to take Blunt to a shooting range.

“I decided, ‘I’m gonna really hit the gas and bring her to a gun range.’ I think that I was so sure that I would never end up with her… that I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna blow it right away and then that way you don’t feel bad.,” he recalled in an interview with Conan O’ Brien in 2012.

That date turned out to be incredibly successful. Within 10 months the pair were engaged. They tied the knot in Como, Italy a year later in July 2010. Blunt wore a custom cream chiffon Marchesa gown for the festivities. George Clooney was one of their guests.

In February 2014 the pair welcomed their first child, a daughter named Hazel. She got a sibling in 2016 when daughter Violet was born.

The actors decided to work together for the very first time in 2018 and began work on the critically-acclaimed horror film A Quiet Place. The film was directed by Krasinski, while both starred in it. Working together brought them even closer.

“I’ve always been the biggest fan of her, but not until you’re in the room when she does what she does do you know why she’s so phenomenal,” Krasinski said during an interview on The Tonight Show. “She’s unbelievable. The most talented, powerful … kindest person. She makes everyone around her better. So honestly, that was my experience.”

In July of 2020, the pair celebrated a decade of marriage. We can’t wait to see what this incredible couple does next.

Weddings have become sites of super-spreader events amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, couples and guests continue to ignore safety regulations.

Mikayla and Anthony Bishop had their wedding in October 2020 and almost half of their guests contracted the COVID-19 virus. When Mikayla was walking down the aisle, she immediately noticed that despite her provision and distribution of masks, almost no one was wearing one.

Two weeks after the wedding, 32 of the 83 guests that attended the wedding had tested positive for the virus, including three of the couple’s grandparents. She and her husband, Anthony, also contracted the virus.

“I didn’t think that almost half of our wedding guests were gonna get sick,” Mikayla told the Washington Post. “You’re in the moment. You’re having fun. You don’t think about covid anymore.”

On the venue’s Facebook page, photos of the wedding decorations and safety measures were posted. In the first photo, there is a basketful of hand sanitizer bottles for guests beside a container holding disposable white masks.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Brian Kruse, the recreation director with Blue Ash Parks who oversees the venue where the wedding was held, said the facility had signs indicating guests must wear a mask and are to consume all food and beverages while seated, among other precautions.

On the day of the wedding, it was only the couple’s grandparents who wore masks at all times, yet they tested positive for the virus, and two spent time in the emergency room with severe symptoms.

The couple experienced symptoms on their honeymoon. Soon, they started getting calls about more and more guests testing positive. They decided to tell their story in hopes of warning others against holding large weddings.

“Every single day we’re getting a call. Oh here’s another person. Here’s another person. Here’s another person,” Mikayla said. “And it starts to take a toll on you.”

Queen Elizabeth said ‘I do’ to the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip 73 years ago on November 20, 1947.

To honour their anniversary, a new image of the couple has been released. In the photograph, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are seen looking at an anniversary card made by Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, alongside other cards and letters sent by well-wishers.

The photograph was taken by Chris Jackson Getty in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle earlier this week.

The pair tied the knot at London’s Westminister Abbey back in 1947. 73 years later, they are the longest-married couple in the history of the British monarchy.

They met at a royal wedding when Queen Elizabeth was just eight years old. They fell in love after a second encounter when she was 13 and he 18, and began exchanging letters. In 1946, Philip asked King George VI for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The rest, as they say, is history.

The wedding did not go without incident, however. Elizabeth’s tiara snapped on the morning of the wedding, and Philip was stopped for speeding through central London on the day of the rehearsal dinner (November 19). He reportedly said at the time: “I’m sorry officer, but I’ve got an appointment with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”

When she was just 25, Elizabeth’s ascended the throne on June 2, 1953, after her father’s death. Prince Philip was the first to swear allegiance to the new queen, describing himself as her “liege man of life and limb”.

The two have been by each other’s side for many years now, and are a beautiful example of a strong and steadfast marriage. He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years,” said Queen Elizabeth II as she described her husband on their golden anniversary in 1997.

The timing of their anniversary is impeccable, as the Royal Family has been in the news after the latest season of The Crown premiered on November 15. The Netflix show, which chronicles the lives of the monarchy, has drawn criticism for its twisted retelling of facts about real people, many of whom are still alive.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, November 18.

To celebrate the two decades of marital bliss, Catherine posted a beautiful video of their lives together captioned:”20 years ago today Michael and I were married!! What an amazing magical night that was! And 7304.85 days and nights on, I love you now as I did then. ( except for the point 85 bit) ? Thank you for the love and laughter.”

Michael also posted on Instagram a tribute to Catherine as he shared a heartwarming audio clip of how they first met. ‘Happy 20th Anniversary my darling! I love you always and forever @catherinezetajones ❤️ (Volume ⬆️) #20years.’

On the voice clip, Michael said:  “I’m watching this movie and then I say: ‘Wow, who is this girl, she’s incredible!'” A month later, he was at the Deauville Film Festival in France in August 1998, when he realised the cast of The Mask Of Zorro would be attending.

He asked his assistant to find out if Catherine would be attending, if she was alone and if she would like to have a drink with him.

After being engaged for nearly a year, they tied the knot at the Plaza Hotel in New York on November 18, 2000.

Since then, Michael and Catherine have two children together – son Dylan 20, and daughter Carys, 17.

A terminally ill superfan had his final wish fulfilled, thanks to iconic actress Jamie Lee Curtis. The original scream queen officiated the superfan’s wedding less than an hour before his death.

Horror movie-lover Anthony Woodles had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2019. Prior to the diagnosis, the 29-year-old aspiring director had been in contact with Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis.

After informing her of his plans to marry long-term girlfriend Emilee, Curtis offered to officiate the wedding. They planned the big day for September 13.

The day of the ceremony, Woodle’s faced a severe health setback. As he lay unconscious in bed, surrounded by his family, Curtis officiated the wedding via a phone call.

“Anthony and Emilee, all anyone is promised is this moment,” she said during the ceremony. “We live and we love in this moment. May the blessings of God rest upon you, may his peace abide with you, may her spirit illuminate your heart now, in this moment. With the power vested in me by the internet, it is my great pleasure to tell you that you are now married people.”

The ceremony began at 10.30pm, and Woodle died at 11.17pm.

Before his death, Woodle was lucky enough to be the first outsider to watch the upcoming thriller Halloween Kills, the latest in the iconic Halloween-franchise. Director David Gordon Green set up a private screening for Woodle and Emilee.

In South Africa, there are only three types of marriages that are recognised by the law. Those are civil marriages, customary marriages, and civil unions.

Whichever marriage you are going to register under, there is a protocol to follow and there are specific documents and forms to submit to the Department of Home Affairs.

When you enter into a civil marriage or civil union, the marriage officer will issue a handwritten marriage certificate free of charge at the ceremony, but you will have to apply for a copy of the marriage certificate from the Department of Home Affairs. Your first abridged marriage certificate is free.

After your wedding, it is advised that you report within two to three days of the marriage taking place but with customary law, you can take up to three months to have it legally registered.

You must go to your local marriage officer with all the necessary documents and ensure that they are certified.

    What do you need?

    – Fingerprints (left thumbprint) of the bride and groom

-Three ID size photos (preferably in colour) of the bride

-Three ID size photos (preferably in colour) of the groom

-Certified copy of the bride’s green ID or Passport

-Certified copy of the groom’s green ID or Passport

-Certified copy of the ID with the address and telephone number of the TWO witnesses

    -Proof of residence

    Pro tips

    – Purchase a small stamp pad for the purpose like those used in Trodat stamp pads

-Keep tissues handy (to wipe fingers, not tears!)

-Take fingerprints and collect all documentation at the wedding rehearsal and NOT on the wedding day

    – Make sure that you have all the necessary paperwork, photos, and fingerprints before the wedding commences

    – Go change the names on passport and ID documents as soon as possible

-It is convenient to have the last will and testament and all other legal matters concluded at the time of the marriage.

Finding your dream dress is always a special moment, but when it’s out off your price range that dream turns into a nightmare. Luckily, this bride was able to get her gown thanks to an unlikely celebrity source.

A woman went on social media and posted about an A-line dress from David’s Bridal with floral details and removable neckline sleeves that she fell in love with, but also mentioned that she could not afford it.

“I’m getting married in March and trying to move home,” Twitter user Ireanna wrote. “Excited but overwhelmed. I saved some money, but it’s still a struggle. I found the dress of my dreams and want to have it so badly, but come in saving for the move, I don’t think it will be possible.”

She then asked her followers to consider donating to her Cash app to help make her dream come true. Out of the people that the tweet reached, Missy Elliot responded with: “Congratulations early on. God bless you both with an unbreakable Union full of love and happiness”.

Ireanna was overjoyed about Missy’s response and invited the star to her wedding. Missy responded by telling her that she has paid for her dress.
