As wedding costs continue to soar, saving a few bucks is always a welcome relief. Caterers, decor, food, drinks – the list goes on.

But one cost that always seems to always take a good chunk of the budget is the wedding dress. One bride decided to seriously cut costs by heading to the online fashion platform SHEIN to purchase her dress. For approximately R700, the Californian bride looked incredible in her all-white ensemble.

This got us thinking… are there any cute wedding dresses local brides could purchase?

Here are a few of our favourites:

Shipping notes:

The cost of shipping is dependent on your purchase amount with free shipping available for those who have purchased over R1000. It’s also important to note that you will be liable for customs duty and VAT on your order. Orders can be received within a week or two, but usually this is delayed when customers do not pay the amount at customs – so make sure you pay!

Happy shopping!

Brides-to-be are always on the hunt for the perfect wedding dress. But those on the hunt also know just how expensive the mission can be with some dream dresses often costing upwards of R10 000.

However, a Scottish bride-to-be attempted to change this narrative. Katie Louise Rice was set to get married, saying yes to a R13 900 dress from a bridal boutique, but her tune quickly changed after she spotted two gorgeous dresses online that cost £55, or R2000.

“My dress from my bridal shop is my “traditional” ceremony dress, and I have spent over £800 on that; however, it’s very heavy, and I wanted to try to find something lighter for my evening reception,” she says.

The blushing bride purchased her long-sleeved double-layered dress from Shein and is set to don it during her nighttime reception.

While Katie couldn’t be happier with her purchases, she does caution brides to rethink the idea that wedding dresses need to be expensive.

“Shop around!

I kind of wish now I had tried the “cheaper” dresses first, then moved on to the bridal shops,” she says.

When it comes to finding “the one” and having that movie-magic moment where your bridesmaids break into a sob after just one look of you in the perfect dress, it all comes down to finding the right shape for your body. We’ve turned to the experts for this one, putting our ear close to the ground and listening to the suggestions that dress designers may have for some potential gown stumbling blocks.

You’re fuller in the hip/thigh area:

Choose something you are comfortable in. If you are confident and love your curves, then there are ways to make a fitted dress accentuate all the right areas. If you are more conservative or feel self-conscious, then go with something that cinches in at the waist and naturally flows out from there.

You have larger than average breasts:

Get a fully structured bustier if your bust needs that lift and support, or a daring plunge for those girls stay in place.

You are petite

If you are going for lace, something with smaller patterns would be best. If not, choose something streamlined and gorgeous! Even the princess look can work, if done right.

You don’t look good in classic white or ivory

Nude, toffee and sand shades are hot this season! Oyster is also a wonderful shade that suits a variety of skin tones.

You’re not too keen on exposing a lot of skin

A beautiful, hand-engineered, appliquéd illusion sleeve is the best of both worlds!

As a bride, your wedding dress is your choice. Many of today’s brides follow the ‘bigger is better’ motto. Gowns are glamorously adorned with beads, feathers, tulle and lace to create a dramatic and dynamic finish. But many others are more attracted to the simple side of life.

If you’re not one for flounces and fancies, a minimalist dress might just be the one for you. Clean lines and simplistic designs allow focus to be on the bride rather than the outfit.

Take inspiration from these understated yet bold gowns.
