    Category

Summer celebrations — from weddings to honeymoons — are all about sunshine, good company, and a glass in hand. And while it’s easy to just open a bottle and pour, a little know-how can make every sip feel more special.

The right prep, the right pairing, and the right setup can elevate your reception drinks or honeymoon evenings instantly.

Make the most of every bottle

Start with your senses: look at the colour, swirl gently, and inhale to pick up the wine’s distinctive notes before taking a slow first sip. The small details matter:

    Use the right glasses:

      • Tulip-shaped glasses bring out aromas

      • Flutes keep bubbles lively

      • Stemless glasses are ideal for relaxed settings

    Get the temperature right:

        • Sparkling wine: 6–8°C

        • Whites: 8–12°C

        • Rosé: ±10°C

        • Light reds: 12–14°C

        • Fuller reds: 14–18°C

    Don’t underestimate presentation:
Nicely chilled bottles, beautiful glassware, and a simple setup make home celebrations or honeymoon picnics feel extra special.

And above all, pace yourselves; responsible sipping is non-negotiable.

Summer honeymoons are all about salt-sprayed skin, sun-drenched days, and endless swims, but they can also be the season your hair fears most. Between ocean dips, pool lounging, and hours under the sun, your strands face a triple threat. The result? Dryness, breakage, dull colour, and that unmistakable “summer stiffness.”

The good news? With the right rituals, you can enjoy every romantic, sun-kissed moment without sacrificing your hair’s health. Here’s your ultimate honeymoon guide to keeping your hair protected from summer’s harshest elements.

    The sea: Salt water 101

Salt water naturally dehydrates the hair, lifting the cuticle and leaving strands rough and brittle. Great for effortless beachy honeymoon waves — not so great for long-term hair health.

How to protect your hair from the ocean

    Pre-hydrate before your swim
Think of it like a primer. Wet your hair thoroughly with clean water before diving into the sea. Saturated hair absorbs less salt.

Use a leave-in conditioner or hair oil
A nourishing leave-in creates a protective barrier, sealing in moisture and guarding against dryness. Coconut oil, argan oil, or a silicone-free serum works beautifully for beach days.

    Post-swim rinse ASAP
If a shower isn’t nearby, even a quick water-bottle rinse removes salt before it crystallises on your strands.

    Pool water: The chlorine culprit

Chlorine is notorious for stripping hair of natural oils and binding to proteins in the strands. The result? Faded colour, a rough texture, and for blondes — the dreaded hint of green. Not ideal for honeymoon photos.

How to protect your hair from chlorine

Wet your hair before swimming (yes, again)
Freshly-wet hair absorbs far less chlorine.

    Coat your hair with conditioner
A lightweight, silicone-free conditioner forms a barrier that keeps chlorine from penetrating deeply.

Wear a swim cap for long pool sessions
Not the most glamorous accessory, but extremely effective — especially if your honeymoon includes lots of pool time or if your hair is bleached or processed.

Use a clarifying shampoo once a week
This removes chlorine buildup without stripping your hair daily.

The sun: Your hair’s UV enemy

Just like your skin, your hair suffers from sun exposure. UV rays weaken the protein structure, fade colour, and dry out the cuticle — especially on the hairline and top layers most exposed during sunny excursions.

How to protect your hair from sun damage

SPF for your hair is a thing — use it
UV-protectant sprays shield your strands from protein breakdown and colour fade. Reapply like sunscreen when spending the whole day outdoors.

    Wear a hat or scarf
Chic, romantic, and extremely effective. Bonus: it protects your scalp, too.

    Avoid the midday sun
UV intensity peaks around midday, making hair more vulnerable to damage — the perfect excuse for a siesta or shaded lunch date.

    Deep-condition weekly
Sunlight pulls moisture from your strands. A weekly mask restores softness and keeps hair flexible and healthy-looking.

Your ultimate summer honeymoon hair routine

For dreamy, healthy hair from check-in to checkout:

Before swim: Wet hair, apply leave-in conditioner or oil, braid for protection.
After swim: Rinse, apply moisturising spray, air-dry when possible.
Daily protection: UV-protectant spray and hats during peak sun.
Weekly care: Deep-conditioning mask, plus clarifying shampoo once a week if swimming often.

A summer honeymoon doesn’t have to mean straw-like strands or faded colour. With a little preparation and a few mindful habits, your hair can stay glossy, soft, and healthy — letting you enjoy every golden hour, every dip in the sea, and every sunlit memory to the fullest.

In the digital era, making announcements for any occasion is pretty common. You know your friend from high school has declared a certain breakfast spot ‘utterly ideal’, your co-worker’s announcement of their newest plant-child, and your younger sibling’s every move.

However, there are some announcements that still remain somewhat sacred in the land of social media, and your wedding or engagement announcement sits at the top of the tree.

So, how do you do it ‘right?’ As in, how do you not come off as obnoxious, or how do you meander coming across a little too nonchalant (to the point where people might wonder if you’re even excited?)

Do you go for the flashy carousal post where everyone gets to see the entire story – from the spot you thought you were simply having dinner at to the ultimate star on your finger, or do you play it lowkey and post a snippet of the magic?

Here are some tips to keep in your back pocket on how to announce your special news on social media:

    1. Make sure those closest to your heart about it before you go live on socials:

The last thing you want to rain on your engagement parade is an unhappy friend or family member. Before you break the internet, make sure you tell those closest to your heart first, and especially those who will certainly see it on social media first.

    2. Use photos that are meaningful to you, or do a shoot

Not everyone grabs perfect photos from their engagement moment. Your nails might not be on point, your partner may be wearing the same outfit as in your last post, or all the photos are blurry. Now, you may be part of a pretty funky couple that sees these as part of their own chill aesthetic, and if that sounds like your relationship then go for it in posting. Instagram especially is long past its curated look, with photo-dumps showing more organic life ruling the roost. However, if you really want to go the full 9-yards and have a little shoot (either professionally or at the trust hands of your phone camera on timer) then that’s amazing too. The bottom line here is to use photos that are meaningful to your relationship – not glossy photos that aren’t you or your partner, or an obscure ring that isn’t even yours found on the Internet.

    3. Use a caption that speaks to your relationship and your audience simultaneously

It’s a special announcement and so no matter which platform you’re using (par Twitter) a longer caption is more than allowed. However, you can also keep it short and sweet by using a quote from a song, film or book that says it all. You can even stick to the same emoji you have next to your partner’s name on your phone if you want, but the key focus here is using a caption that again, is special to your relationship and won’t be uncomfortable for your audience. Ie: Telling your audience that you’re better than everyone else because you won’t die alone is probably not a good way to announce your special news.

    4. Make a story highlight for the build-up to the big day, not necessarily separate posts

We know you’re excited, and most of your close friends and followers will be too! However, that doesn’t mean that everyone expects or wants a daily update on what you’re doing for the wedding. If you do want to document the big build up, all the cake flavours you tried and wedding locations you scouted, put them on your stories (either Facebook or Instagram) and compile them in a highlight. The bonus of collecting all these moments is that you’ll have a whole trailer before the wedding, and it could also make an incredible TikTok.

You’ve found your dream dress but it doesn’t sit quite the way you were expecting. While most brides spend hours dreaming about the perfect gown that they’ll walk down the aisle in, what’s not often talked about (or dreamt about) is the logistics of wedding dress alterations.

The fit of your wedding dress is oh-so-important, which makes understanding wedding alterations just as important – but what to know?

    Types of wedding dress alterations:

    Adding details

If you have the time and the budget, customising your dress to include a range of details that suit your fancy – sleeves, train length, shoulder straps or beading – can be done by a reliable seamstress.

    Basic hemming

This is probably the most common type of alteration and can range from hemming the length of the gown to adjusting the fit of the dress. These basic adjustments are a great way to make sure your wedding gown is comfy, looks spectacular on you and leaves you feeling beautiful.

Keep in mind that most wedding gowns will need alterations, which leads us to the next tip: budget.

    wedding dress
    Etsy

    Planning is everything

Add wedding dress alterations to your budget:

You want to look amazing on your big day and it’s important to remember that you may need wedding dress alterations to ensure that the dress fits you like a glove. Now, some wedding boutiques are heaven-sent and offer free alterations (depending on what you want to be done), however, you may need to add alterations to your budget.

So, how much will it cost? Another important note is that all wedding dress seamstresses are different and will charge their own rate, but you can expect to pay around R2500 (or more) for alterations, so make sure that you add this into your wedding budget. Another aspect to keep in mind – more expensive is always better, so make sure that you shop around.

    Timing is everything

No bride needs the extra stress and stressing about whether you’ll receive your wedding gown before you walk down the aisle is stressful. Timing is everything when it comes to alterations, so make sure that you create a timeline that ensures you won’t be pulling your hair from the stress.

If it’s possible, purchase your wedding dress at least 10 months before your date as buying your dress early allows you to have an abundance of time for fittings. Schedule a fitting at least eight to 12 weeks before the wedding and then a second fitting at least two weeks before you walk down the aisle.

    Fitting tricks

Bring along your wedding shoes, accessories and undergarments

Bring along your wedding day essentials in order to ensure that you get a proper fit. There’s no question that shoe length, your favourite shapewear and a strapless bra can make all the difference when trying on clothes, and the same goes for your wedding dress. You want to know exactly how it’s going to fit and during your fitting appointments, you’ll get a sense of what you’ll look like on the day.

An extra tip: Your wedding dress is usually altered according to the length of your shoe, so if you’re looking to change into a pair of sneakers during the reception, it’s going to be a bit long and you may find yourself tripping all over the place. To avoid this, make sure that you purchase a shoe that you love and will keep you nice and comfy.

    Bring a friend

This may be an unspoken wedding dress shopping rule, but it’s something that is always a good idea to say again. Bring along a supportive friend or family member to help keep your spirits up and help give you a different (but positive) perspective when shopping around or going for fittings. It’s also really nice to have someone to document those memories with a selfie or two before clinking your glass in celebration of finding “the one.”

    Happy wedding dress shopping!

Why Couples Choose To Say “I Still Do”

Marriage isn’t a straight line—it’s a winding journey filled with highs, lows, and countless “we’ll figure it out” moments. Over the years, many couples realise that love looks different than it did on their wedding day. Between raising kids, career changes, or surviving life’s curveballs, your vows become more than poetic promises—they’re proof of endurance.

That’s why more couples are choosing to renew their vows. It’s not just about romance; it’s a reminder that after everything, you’d still choose each other. Relationship strategist Elizabeth Overstreet calls it “a reaffirmation that the good continues to outweigh the challenges,” a symbolic act of resilience and recommitment.

The Milestone Years That Matter Most

Traditionally, couples celebrate milestones every five years: wood for the 5th, silver for the 25th, gold for the 50th. But in reality, the “right” anniversary is deeply personal. Maybe your 12th year felt more meaningful than your 10th because you overcame a rough patch or welcomed your first child.

Experts say couples often choose the 5th, 10th, 25th, or 50th anniversary as natural points to renew vows. Others prefer moments of personal triumph—such as recovering from illness, surviving financial strain, or simply rediscovering their spark.

In South Africa, where family remains central to community life, many couples use vow renewals to bring generations together. It’s a way to remind children and loved ones that love, like ubuntu, grows stronger when shared.

Things To Consider Before Planning A Vow Renewal

Before diving into Pinterest boards and floral quotes, take a step back. Even small vow renewals need planning, a bit of budgeting, and emotional intention.

    Your Guest List

Decide who you want to share the moment with. Some couples opt for a quiet exchange under a tree or in their backyard; others invite family and close friends for a full celebration. Wedding planner Alicia Mae says many use vow renewals to do what they couldn’t the first time—whether that means adding personal touches or skipping the stressful parts.

    Budget And Costs

Vow renewals can range from simple to extravagant. A small garden ceremony may cost just a few thousand rand, while a venue or resort celebration can easily run into tens of thousands. Costs vary depending on location, décor, and photography, but experts say a renewal can be as intimate or lavish as you wish—it’s the meaning that counts.

    Timing And Significance

Think beyond the numbers. Choose a date that reflects your shared story—maybe the year you survived something tough together, or when you moved cities and started anew. This emotional anchor often makes the ceremony more memorable than the anniversary itself.

Destination Ideas For Your Vow Renewal

From vineyards in the Cape Winelands to beaches in St. Lucia, vow renewals today span the globe. Some South Africans even turn their milestone into a travel experience.

    Beach Escapes

Couples often head to coastal resorts for an intimate “I Do for Two” experience—like a secluded ceremony at sunset with just the sound of waves and champagne in hand.

    Vineyard Celebrations

Wine farms remain a timeless choice. Places like Franschhoek or Stellenbosch offer breathtaking views, fine wine, and that old-world romance perfect for a small renewal surrounded by nature.

    Family Retreats

Others choose to rent a small boutique hotel or lodge, bringing their families along for a weekend celebration. It’s less about formality and more about connection—recreating the joy of a wedding without the stress.

    The Heart Of It All

Whether it’s your 5th or 25th anniversary, renewing your vows isn’t about redoing your wedding—it’s about rediscovering each other. It’s saying, “After all these years, through every version of us, I still choose you.”

And in a world that often rushes past the quiet, meaningful moments, that might be the most romantic gesture of all.

Charles Leclerc’s Engagement Has F1 Fans in Their Feelings

The red of Ferrari turned a little more romantic this week as Charles Leclerc and his longtime girlfriend, Alexandra Saint-Mleux, announced their engagement, and social media hasn’t stopped celebrating since.

The 28 year old Monegasque driver, known for his sharp focus on the Formula 1 track, revealed a softer side with a simple, heartfelt post showing the couple smiling as Alexandra flashed her engagement ring. Within hours, the image went viral, with fans and fellow drivers flooding the comments with congratulatory messages and heart emojis.

    From Paddocks to Promises

Charles and Alexandra’s love story has been a quiet one, away from the glare of the F1 paddock lights. The pair reportedly began dating in 2022, building their relationship while navigating the whirlwind of Leclerc’s racing schedule and media attention. Alexandra, a model and art student based between Monaco and Paris, has often been spotted supporting him at race weekends — a calm presence amid the high-speed chaos.

According to sources close to the couple, the proposal happened privately, away from cameras and sponsors, in true Leclerc style: elegant, understated, and sincere. Those who know him best say it reflects how he’s always carried himself — humble despite fame, fiercely loyal to those closest to him.

If the rumours are true, the wedding is expected to take place in Monaco, Leclerc’s hometown and the heart of one of F1’s most glamorous circuits. Locals are already calling it “the royal wedding of the Riviera”, and tourism pages have started buzzing about what such an event could mean for the city’s 2025 social calendar.

For Monegasque fans, the engagement feels deeply personal — Leclerc isn’t just a Ferrari star; he’s their homegrown hero, a symbol of pride for a small principality with a big presence in global motorsport.

    Social Media Goes Full Heart-Eyes

On X and instagram, fans joked that “Leclerc finally won something off-track,” while others shared memes of Ferrari’s pit crew “preparing the ring like a tire change.” Instagram comment sections were filled with warm messages from other drivers such as Charles’ team mate Lewis Hamilton and former team mate Carlos Sainz and the WAG community that often travels the globe together.

One comment from a fan summed it up perfectly: “He may race for Ferrari, but this victory belongs to Alexandra.”

    Beyond the Track

For Leclerc, this engagement marks a new chapter in a life already lived at full throttle. Between intense race weekends, Ferrari contract renewals, and championship ambitions, finding time for romance hasn’t been easy. But with Alexandra by his side, fans say he’s found balance — the kind of peace that could even translate into stronger performances on track.

The wedding date hasn’t been revealed yet, but one thing’s certain: wherever it happens, it’ll be the most anticipated pit stop of Leclerc’s life.

When Afrobeats meets high fashion, the result is nothing short of spectacular. That’s exactly what fans witnessed as Nigerian music superstar Mr Eazi and actress-fashionista Temi Otedola tied the knot in not one, but three jaw-dropping celebrations across Monaco, Dubai, and Iceland.

The couple, who have been together for eight years, didn’t just plan a wedding — they curated a global love story. Starting in Monaco on May 9, the pair honoured a deeply personal date: the birthday of Eazi’s late mother. Their private court wedding saw Temi in a whimsical Wiederhoeft corset-and-skirt ensemble embroidered with delicate florals, while Eazi opted for a sleek grey Louis Vuitton suit.

Later that day, they switched gears into glamorous eveningwear — Temi in a bold black-and-white polka-dot Christopher John Rogers dress and Eazi in a sharp black suit, effortlessly embodying “couple goals.”Source: Temi Otedola on Instagram

A Traditional Celebration with Heritage at the Heart

Their second ceremony, held on July 5 in Dubai, was a traditional Nigerian affair hosted at the Otedola family home. Guests described it as a day of “pure joy and thanksgiving.” Temi stunned in multiple custom-made outfits, including an unforgettable bow-detailed gown, while also paying tribute to her husband’s late mother with an attire inspired by Nigerian heritage.

    The Fairytale Finale in Iceland

The third and final chapter unfolded in Iceland, where the couple exchanged vows in a cinematic ceremony that caught the eye of Vogue’s September issue. Temi channelled Audrey Hepburn in a Fendi Haute Couture gown, while Mr Eazi embodied timeless sophistication in a Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo. Her understated Instagram caption — “Mr and Mrs Ajibade” — summed it all up.

Social Media Buzz and Global Spotlight

From Instagram carousels to TikTok edits, fans couldn’t get enough of the opulence. Temi’s posts drew millions of likes, with many Nigerians dubbing it the “royal wedding of Afrobeats.” On X , one user wrote: “Three countries, three weddings, one love story. This is history in the making.”

The wedding also highlighted the growing cultural crossover between Afrobeats and global fashion. Featuring in Vogue placed the celebration firmly on the international stage, underlining how African stars are redefining luxury weddings worldwide.

    Why This Wedding Matters

Beyond the glamour, this was also a deeply symbolic union of music, fashion, and heritage. It reflected how today’s African creatives are not only influencing culture locally but also reshaping global conversations about love, luxury, and representation.

For many, Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola’s wedding wasn’t just about vows — it was about vision. A vision that showed African love stories can be celebrated on the grandest scale, with the world watching in admiration.

Wedding Insurance: Covering Weather, Vendor Issues, and Unexpected Circumstances

Wedding insurance might not sound romantic at all. But in a country where a summer storm can roll in out of nowhere and load shedding can hit in the middle of your first dance, it’s a conversation worth having and more and more couples are covering themselves on all fronts.

What should you look out for? Is wedding insurance really neccessary. Stick around to find out as we’ll dive in to all the nitty gritty details about wedding insurance in South Africa.

Why Wedding Insurance Is Becoming a Talking Point

Weddings aren’t just love stories — they’re major investments. In South Africa, a full‑scale celebration can easily run into the hundreds of thousands of rand if budgets are left unchecked. And yet, many couples are relying purely on hope and crossed fingers to protect that investment.

From Cape Town to Johannesburg and beyond, social media is full of stories from couples blindsided by last‑minute disasters: a photographer who simply didn’t show, a caterer who closed down days before the reception, or a venue suddenly deemed unusable due to flooding. The list goes on…

Without wedding insurance, those non‑refundable deposits and frantic last‑minute suprises come straight out of your own pocket.

The Unpredictable South African Factor – The Weather…

South Africans know our weather likes to keep us guessing. Picture this: you’ve planned a picture‑perfect outdoor ceremony in the Winelands, only for the heavens to open in a freak midsummer thunderstorm. Or you’ve booked a beachfront ceremony in Durban, and a sudden cold front brings gale‑force winds.

Even indoor weddings aren’t immune to Murphy’s law. Power cuts during peak load shedding can disrupt lighting, sound systems and catering. On the other hand, heavy rain or wind can delay guests, vendors or even your arrival and throw the rest of the wedding progamme out completely.

    What Wedding Insurance Actually Covers

Wedding insurance generally comes in two main types:

    • Cancellation or Postponement Cover
This type of cover  protects you financially if you need to cancel or delay your wedding due to illness, extreme weather, vendor collapse or other unforeseen events.

    • Liability Cover
This covers property damage or injury claims that may arise during your wedding. Many South African venues now require couples to have liability insurance before confirming a booking.

Some policies also cover lost or stolen wedding attire, damaged décor, vendor no‑shows, and even unexpected travel disruptions for destination weddings. You’ll need to read through everything carefully to know exactly what you’re covered for just incase anything happens and also so that there’s no misunderstandings.

    Local Couples Share Their Take

In wedding planning forums, there’s a clear divide. Some say the peace of mind is priceless. One Joburg bride wrote: “Our DJ’s car broke down on the way to our wedding in Magaliesburg. The insurance paid for a last‑minute replacement — we didn’t miss a beat.”

Others see it as unnecessary. A Cape Town groom commented: “We had a small backyard wedding. We didn’t think it was worth the extra cost. But if we’d been at a big venue, I’d have reconsidered.”

Questions to Ask Before You Buy

If you’re considering wedding insurance, don’t just tick a box — make sure it suits your wedding. Ask:

    • What specific risks does it cover?

    • Does it include outdoor or destination weddings?

    • What are the payout limits and excess fees?

    • Does it cover all your vendors, including subcontractors?

    • How fast are claims processed?

    So, Is It Worth It?

If your wedding budget represents a significant portion of your savings, or if you’re planning an elaborate event with multiple vendors and moving parts, the answer often leans toward yes. It’s not about expecting disaster, but about protecting your once‑in‑a‑lifetime celebration from forces beyond your control.

In South Africa, where the weather can change in an instant and service providers may face sudden challenges, wedding insurance can be the safety net that keeps your big day intact — or at least ensures you can bounce back quickly if something goes wrong.

    The Bottom Line:

You’ll never regret having wedding insurance if you need it. And if you don’t? Well, that’s the best‑case scenario — and a small price to pay for peace of mind.
