The precious couple that got adopted by the nation, Nonhlanhla Soldaat and Hector Mkansi, finally had their dream wedding on December 31, 2019. After Hector was filmed presenting Nonhlanhla with a ring in a Gauteng KFC, the two went viral and their story became a homegrown legend.

The much-anticipated wedding took place on New Year’s eve as any celebration should. Laced with fairy lights, the venue was absolutely breathtaking and the white, champagne and rose gold colour scheme was magical.

Nonhlanhla’s pearl white dress was elegant, with a portrait neckline and no sleeves, which accentuated her figure perfectly. A small, understated bow on her waist tied the look together. She opted for a veil embroidered with lace and a stylish up-do with small white roses in her bun.

Her bouquet, like the flowers used in the ceremony and reception were all light peach and white roses, adding to the fresh-meet-glamorous feel of the day.

Hector was not to be overlooked either, wearing a very modern champagne coloured blazer and black bow-tie.

The two beamed and looked more in love than ever. You would never even guess that they’ve been married all along, and this was their second wedding! We wish them happiness and love.

The country’s favourite couple, Nonhlanhla Soldaat and Hector Mkansi are tying the knot on New Year’s eve!

After a whirlwind of public participation including the search for the ‘KFC couple’ and then the masses offering to contribute towards their wedding, the big day is finally here.

While we are sitting on the edge of our seats to see the dress, here’s what we know so far.

Nonhlanhla’s dress cost over R30 000, the designer/supplier is still anonymous at this time. “I want my wife to feel like a queen because she is my queen, even her dress will show that,” was all Hector was willing to reveal.

The wedding theme is royal, with gold and champagne as the main colours. Royal weddings are notoriously lavish and over the top, so we’re excited to see what the decor looks like. We’re sure the couple will have the finest of everything, from the flowers down to cutlery fit for a king and queen.

The venue is unknown for privacy reasons, but we do know there will be 250 guests. At first, the Johannesburg couple had their hopes up to get the FNB stadium so that they could invite the whole country, but it was not to be.

“There were so many people who requested to attend the wedding and we also had it in our hearts. Unfortunately, we were told that the stadium is already booked for the date so we had to find a different venue,” Hector told W24.

The couple was initially offered numerous luxurious honeymoon destinations by resorts all over the country, but rumour has it they will hop on a flight for an international honeymoon in the US.  When they return, they plan to do a province-to-province tour so they can meet and thank all their supporters all across SA.

The couple is eternally grateful to everyone who is helping to make their dream wedding come true. “I was just showing my wife how much I love and appreciate her and now she will get a wedding she never dreamed she would be having,” Hector said.

We wish them love and happiness!

Now this is what dreams are made of. Disney child star Hilary Duff said ‘I do’ to singer and record producer Matthew Koma in a beautiful private ceremony in their own front yard in Los Angeles, with personal meaning embedded throughout the day.

In 2018, Koma popped the question to Duff in a meaningful way. On a walk through a New York park, Koma presented Duff with an illustrated notebook, featuring images of them and their two kids Luca (that Duff shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie) and Banks.

“All of a sudden he says, ‘I’ve been working on something for you, and you’re going to love it. I really want our kids to know our story and now we can keep adding to this book,” duff tells Vogue. “It’s our whole entire story mapped out for us to refer back to as we get older and for our kids to know, which is amazing. I get to the very last page, and there’s a little piece that I have to lift up and my ring was inside. It was so sweet. It was really special and really simple, which is very much how we are and how we operate. Then it started raining, and it was perfect.”

With such a meaningful proposal, the wedding had to match. Duff wanted a simple and understated yet powerful wedding day. Working with celebrity planner Yifat Oren, they created an intimate front yard ceremony. Guest seats were arranged in a u-shape designed to feel like a hug. Duff’s Younger co-star Molly Bernard and actor Chris Mintz-Plasse acted as the officiants.

Their two kids were also part of the ceremony. Luca acted as ring bearer, and Duff walked down the aisle holding one-year-old daughter Banks.

Duff wore a stunning caped gown designed by Jenny Pakham. The dress featured a high neckline, an open back, long sleeves with slits up the front and accented saddle-shoulders. Their initials, their children’s initials, as well as the date of the wedding were embroidered inside the lining of the dress.

After the ceremony, Duff changed into a shimmering gold dress for the reception, where guests partied the night away. Congrats to the newlyweds!

You know what’s worse than being dumped? Being broken up with a week before you’re supposed to get married. This unlucky bride-to-be, however, turned her misfortune into a symbolic moment by marrying herself instead.

Sandra Blanco, 32, from London, was left heartbroken when her fiancé broke off their engagement a week before Christmas.

“He said he didn’t want to be with me – that was it. Apparently, he had been feeling like this even before he proposed; I was confused, devastated and in shock,” she explained in an Instagram post.

Blanco had already begun planning their wedding, as they had settled on eloping to Las Vegas. Unfortunately, she was unable to receive refunds on anything she had booked. Rather than losing her money, Blanco decided to go forward with the wedding. Except this time, she would be marrying herself.

“I didn’t cancel the chapel or the ceremony,” she explained. “I didn’t want to because I had something very special in mind; I decided I was going to marry myself. I know – sounds crazy, right? But it wasn’t.”

“It was beautiful, emotional and moving; it was a ceremony where I committed to be good to and take care of myself.”

On her wedding day, she headed out to the Little Chapel in Las Vegas, where she made a promise to herself that love would come from within. Photographer Natalie J captured the day beautifully, and male model Iain Spivey acted as the groom-to-be in the post-wedding photoshoot.

“I’m a big fan of ‘cheesy’ and I wanted to make fun of such a situation, so I went to The Little Vegas Chapel,” she explained. “As I walked down the aisle by myself, the officiator, dressed as Elvis Presley, of course, spoke the kindest of words.”

The officiator’s words truly drove home Sandra’s journey.

‘Today you planned to come here with your boyfriend, unfortunately it didn’t work out and yet you still have the courage to come here now to make a promise to yourself. It is time to fully live your life, your wild and precious life,” said the officiator. “It is time to untie the stories, distractions and illustrations that keep you small and lean into the life that is waiting for you. Time to honour your innermost values, time to be gentle with your innocent heart, time to stand firmly by what you know to be true and make a bold, lifelong commitment to love.”

With this wedding, Blanco hopes to inspire others in similar positions and remind them that their pain is only temporary.

“It isn’t your end; this is your beginning and life as you know it now will open new doors and opportunities for you,” she said. “You will learn better and you will choose better; opportunities that will enable you to meet someone else who loves you more than you might ever love yourself. I promise you and you deserve it.”

The Guiness World Records oldest living married couple have just celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary, proving that true love never dies.

At 105 and 106 years old respectively, Charlotte and John Henderson from Austin, Texas are the oldest living couple on Earth. They met all the way back in 1934 at the University of Texas and it was love at first sight. John was seated behind Charlotte in class, and one day they started a conversation that sparked the flame.

“Charlotte looked over her shoulder and smiled and I knew I wanted to take her on a date,” John explained to TODAY. “She was anxious for me to ask her!”

They wed on December 15, 1939. So what is the secret to their successful marriage?

“Don’t indicate to your partner that you’re going to be the leader or you’re going to have it your way,” John told Fox 61. “You have to give and take as life goes by, and be grateful for what you have, and try to make tomorrow a better day than today, and be sure you don’t go to bed at night with a chip on your shoulder. Be aware of the other person’s feelings.”

“Some people say that’s the reason we’ve had such a long-married life, ’cause we didn’t have any kids to worry about,” John also joked.

Royal weddings have a special place in our hearts, simply because they are so vastly different from every other kind of wedding there is. Everything is done on a big scale and according to tradition. Certain rules and do’s and don’ts apply. Procedure must be followed and the bride and groom almost seem to be bystanders. Still, it’s nothing short of a fairy tale the day the royal bride steps out in her beautiful dress.

Princess Beatrice of York is the daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and of course, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II. However, news of her engagement to Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi had been overshadowed by a recent scandal involving her father, and not much is known about the wedding details. Here is what we do know.

Her platinum engagement ring was designed by Shaun Leane and has a 3.5 carat round diamond set in an art deco design, with tapered baguettes on each side of the centre.

The couple is not allowed to reveal their wedding date until the Queen approves the reveal. According to Express.co.uk, a friend of the couple said they will reveal the wedding date early in the new year. The wedding is rumoured to be in the “early summer,” which could be anything from May to June.

Regarding the venue, the general thought was that they would tie the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, as well as Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank. However, reliable intel now points toward The Guards’ Chapel at St James’s Park, which serves military members and their families.

Who knew a wedding could literally be an uphill battle? This unique couple decided that they wanted to say ‘I do’ on a mountain top, so they made their wedding guests hike three hours to the wedding destination.

Livvy Bruce, 35, and Justin Flitter, 40 from Aukland, New Zealand chose an unusual spot for their December 7 nuptials, settling on the Pinnacles Hut on the Coromandel Peninsula, only a casual three-hour uphill hike away.

“We’ve always done a lot of hiking adventures together over the last three years and when we were looking for venues and ideas, we wanted to do something different,” Flitter explained to Stuff Online.”Everyone thought we were a little bit nuts when we told them we’re getting married at the Pinnacles Hut – it’s a three-hour hike, most of it’s uphill, you’ve got to carry everything in and out, you can’t helicopter in, there’s no proper toilet and there’s no power.”

On the day, the bride simply rolled up her wedding dress and kept it safe in her backpack during the hike.

Their big day was a collaborative event, where their 60 guests all participated in making the wedding festivities. They brought their own drinks and snacks to create a shared antipasto platter. Luckily, the newlyweds catered the main meal of mexican wraps and salads followed by meringues and fruit.

“It’s very much an effort where everyone has to contribute, everyone is involved in helping to cook, clean, decorate – everyone gets a job to do. Everybody chipped in and that made it really, really special,” Flitter said.

A sign of good fortune, catching the bridal bouquet or garter predicts that the recipient will be the next person to get married. But have you ever wondered where this tradition comes from? Turns out, they have an incredibly odd origin story…

You know the scene: the emcee calls all the single ladies to the dance floor for the traditional bouquet toss. Bridesmaids and guests jostle each other in preparation of the momentous occasion. The bride turns her back on her guests and hurls the bouquet, causing eager women to leap into a frenzy to catch the floral arrangement. It’s a fun, lighthearted moment during ones big day. However, it wasn’t always that way.

Back in the day – medieval England to be exact – wedding guests were desperate to have a piece of the bride, literally. Wedding dresses were seen as positive signs of fertility and good luck, so obviously everyone wanted to get their hands on one. After the wedding, guests would clamour around the bride and rip pieces of her gown off her body as a keepsake. Guests in those days were pretty intense and would even follow the newlyweds into their bridal chamber and egg them on as they prepared to consummate the marriage. Yes, really. Understandably, newlyweds weren’t really into this.  To ward them off, the bride would hurl her bouquet into the crowd as a distraction before she made a quick exit with the groom.

The garter was a popular piece guests aimed to grab from the bride. After the newlyweds consummated the marriage, the groom would toss the garter to the waiting crowd as proof that the deed was done. This piece of lingerie thus came to symbolise fertility and good fortune.

In the 1919 book, “Wedding Customs Then and Now”, Carl Holliday writes, “The bridesmaids start with the weary bride to the wedding chamber when suddenly the cry arises, ‘Get her garter’… If the woman has been thoughtful, she has fastened it loosely to the bottom of her dress so that it drags in plain view of the scrambling ruffians; if she has not been a wise virgin, she may find her clothes in rags after the struggle.”

Luckily, times have changed. Although I don’t know if a groom lunging underneath a skirt to retrieve the garter with his teeth makes this tradition any better. Think of the children…
