Your wedding look is one of the most important parts of your big day, and you want to look your absolute best. That’s why choosing the right look, and the right makeup artist, are so essential. Sometimes, you’re not exactly sure what you want or what would work for you. Your makeup artist should be the one to give advice, help you try out different styles and ultimately just get you.

We chatted to Rachelle Froneman, Makeup Expert and Retail Manager for Eastgate Partnered Free Standing MAC Cosmetics to get the inside scoop on how to get the best from your makeup artist, so they can make you shine.

Q: What is trending in wedding makeup in 2020?

A: Fresh face, soft and romantic colors that enhance your natural beauty. Choosing a classic look for your wedding will never go out of style.

Q: How do you help a bride decide on her wedding look?

A: I always ask the bride about her theme and style for the wedding first. Then we can create a look for her, choosing either a lip focus or an eye focus. It’s great when brides come with a reference of a makeup look they like and then we can customize it to her skin tone, eye shape and face shape.

Q: What part of doing a client’s makeup is the hardest for artists?

A: When the client is unsure of what she wants, it feels like a guessing game and can sometimes get frustrating for both the client and the artist.

Q: What do brides do that makes your job harder?

A: Telling us what to do in every aspect of the makeup application. It makes the artist feel like the bride would rather just do it themselves!

Q: What are things brides should keep in mind when hiring a makeup artist?

Cancelling at the last minute makes things really hard on everyone. Also keep in mind that you booked your artist for a specific time frame to be able to finish the makeup and asking them to also just “quickly” do the cousin’s makeup too and the aunt and three other bridesmaids for free, is not cool. Makeup is a skill that artists study and practice for years, and it would be unfair to expect the artists to do more than you pay for.

Q: What is your favorite part of doing makeup for a wedding?

The end result! Seeing everything come together and the look on the bride’s face. It really is a glow like no other.

Q: And your least favourite part? Why?

Cleaning make up brushes…it looks like a makeup explosion in your kit.

Q: Any interesting requests you have had?

Nothing funny or weird, but brides always want you to drink champagne with them and celebrate! And most times the bride wants to take you home with them to be their personal makeup artist, which is quite a compliment.

Back in 1985, Mick and Tracey Hepworth from the UK suffered a terrible misfortune. While celebrating at a pub after their wedding, Tracey’s handbag was stolen – with the film roll containing their wedding pictures.

Unbeknownst to them, Angie McHale had found the empty handbag with the roll of film on the street later that night, and had the photos developed. However, back then, she had no way of reaching the owners of the photos.

Years later, McHale came across the pictures again, and decided to share them on Facebook. To her surprise, within hours the pictures were shared hundreds of times and had over 400 comments with people trying to help. At last, a friend of Tracey saw it online and told her she thinks it might be her!

Angie got in contact with Mick and Tracey and finally reunited the couple with their treasured memories of their special day.

“It was a thoughtful gesture for what was a complete stranger,”Angie said. “It just shows Facebook can be used for good,” added Tracey.

What a lovely anniversary gift, as Mick and Tracey will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary this July.

A man in the US was diagnosed with a rare and fast-growing cancer that cannot be cured, according to the National Cancer Institute. Then, in January of this year, Rachel rushed her loving partner Gus to the hospital when he experienced severe pain. He had been hospitalized ever since.

But Gus knew he wanted Rachel to be his wife.  So on 15 February, Gus proposed to Rachel from his hospital bed. “We kind of just talked about, ‘Why would we get married if we know this potentially could lead to him not being here much longer?’ and I said I didn’t care about that,” Rachel told CNN.
Just a week later, Gus and Rachel had their wedding, right in the hospital! The caregivers helped decorate the atrium with flowers, brought the wedding cake and cupcakes and set up seating for guests.
“The perfect definition is ‘just bittersweet,'” Rachel told WABC. “We’re still on cloud nine. We’re still living in the moment, and that’s basically what we’re doing every day,” she said. “I still want to be his wife no matter what.”

Amid allegations that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would not attend the wedding of Harry’s cousin, Princess Beatrice, sources close to the couple told Cosmopolitan that this is not true.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is confirmed to take place on May 29. This comes in light of much drama involving her father, Prince Andrew, followed by reports saying there is tension between the Sussexes and their cousins after the infamous Megxit-saga.

However, according to British tabloid Page Six, Meghan and Harry have been invited and are planning on making the trip from Canada to London to be there for the Buckingham Palace wedding.

Mozzi’s two-year-old son from a previous relationship, Wolfie, is also confirmed to attend the wedding after speculation that he might not.

The million dollar question! If you were in a serious relationship before dating your current partner, you might wonder how to go about it. You can’t deny that they were a significant part of your life, but you also don’t want to create unnecessary tension or make anyone uncomfortable, least of all yourself or your new partner.

So, if it’s something you’re considering, it largely depends on a few factors. Keep these in mind when making your decision:

Do you have a relaxed friendship with them? If so, and hopefully in that case they are friends with your current partner too, of course you should invite them. That probably means you broke up on good terms and have put the past behind you. We say go for it.

If, however, things did not end on a good note and there is unfinished business, or unresolved feelings from their side (hopefully not from yours!), then it might be a no-go. You might think you are just being polite, but the truth is, you don’t owe them anything. Having them there might just create opportunity for a scene you don’t want.

If they are the plus-one of an invited guest, but you did not actually plan on inviting your ex, discuss this with your partner and the invited guest. If it makes you or your spouse uncomfortable, you can talk to the guest and sensitively explain why you don’t think it’s a good idea. Any reasonable person would understand if they are made aware of the situation.

Lastly, in which ever scenario you find yourself, avoid two things: Trying to make your ex jealous with your new partner, and disregarding your new partner’s feelings. If you’re trying to make anyone jealous, you might have to work on some issues and make sure you really are over your ex. Remember, your new life with your new partner should kick off with a happy start and if it would hurt them, we say don’t go there. It’s not worth it.

Disney fans can now die happy: the world-famous animation movie creators have officially announced they will launch a wedding dress line inspired by – you guessed it – famous Disney princesses.

Most people have insurance for different kinds of potential emergencies in life. Medical expenses, break-ins at your home or work and car accidents are all valid things to take out insurance for. However, not that many people think about getting wedding insurance. And believe us, things go wrong. From venues getting flooded to brides getting thrown off horses, to wedding rings getting lost to (touch wood) the wedding getting cancelled by the bride or groom, it’s all happened before.

So yes, we highly recommend getting cover for your big day! Plus, various insurers have quite reasonable packages with contributions as low as R6 000. The average wedding insurance should cover around R75 000 or more, depending on your wedding.

Speaking to W24, Fiona Fitzpatrick from IF Administrators said that it’s important to follow the correct procedure should something go wrong. “We may require documents such as confirmation from an expert that damaged property is beyond repair, medical reports from a doctor, contracts signed with the relevant wedding contractor like florist, photographer, wedding coordinator, etc.

“In the event of any incident which is caused by theft, attempted theft or malicious or criminal damage should be informed to the authorities within 24 hours and the reference number submitted with the claim,” she adds.

Rather safe than sorry, we always say.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Robben Island annually hosts a mass wedding on the island. This year marks the 20th time loved-up couples said ‘I do’. This year, 19 couples tied the knot, one of which was the first visually impaired couple to get married there. They also received the first marriage certificate in South Africa issued in Braille.

The keynote speaker, Minister of Home Affairs’ Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, said he was so happy to see these couples become a part of history.

Many brides, grooms and their entourages sported red and white in keeping with the Valentine’s theme. Others opted for matching traditional ethnic wear and one bride wore champagne coloured evening wear. Another couple chose to keep things casual with less formal fashion. The atmosphere was lively, the air abuzz with excitement and tangible emotion.
