DIY Origami hearts

A cute and fun DIY idea for wedding decor – create origami hearts that you can place on tables or arrange them on a photo frame for a focal piece.

Supplies (find them at your nearest craft shop):

origami paper R78/24 sheets
glue R50/100ml
photo frame R190/300 x 500mm
double-sided tape R30/18mm

Steps:

Fold the origami paper up and down, left and right.
Open the paper again and fold left and right into the centre. Keep it there.
Fold the top and bottom into the middle and fold the top down.
Fold the bottom up in the same way.
Fold the bottom part to the left and right according to the crease.
Similarly, fold the upper part to the left and right according to the crease.
Fold in the top and bottom corners
Fold the upper right and the lower left so that they widen.
Fold the top and bottom so that the front is a solid.
Push in the left and right corners and the centre of the 3D part
To complete the 3D heart, tuck in the folds at the bottom so that they fold over one another and stay in place.
Then glue the open sides of the heart. If you’d like to scatter the hearts around, then this is the last step.
If you’d like to arrange the hearts on a photo frame then take the empty frame with a backing and use double-sided tape to attach the hearts to the frame in an arrangement of your choice.
There you have it!

There are many reasons why a couple might request a cash gift. Many couples prefer receiving money because it can contribute to the honeymoon or big purchases. Maybe the couple would prefer to buy their own things from various places and therefor one registry wouldn’t work.

But as a guest, how much money should you give? You don’t want to give too little but at the same time you don’t want to be bankrupt.

Things to consider

Firstly, your final amount depends on your relationship with the soon-to-wed pair. If you’re an intimate family member or a very close friend, you would obviously be expected to give more.

If you’re a distant relative and you don’t really see the couple often or if you’re a co-worker then you wouldn’t give as much.

Ask yourself, how much would you spend on a gift? The amount you gift should be similar.

Base your figure on your own budget. What can you afford to give? If you’d like to give a large amount then you could perhaps save a little money each month.

What exactly is a boutonniere?

You probably know what it is, but maybe the name itself is unfamiliar. So what exactly is a boutonniere? It’s a spray of flowers that is attached to the left lapel, as many believe that when it’s placed on the left, it’s closer to your heart. A great idea is to have a flower from the bride’s bouquet feature in the boutonniere to create some sentiment and unity.

Boutonniere, which is French, translates to ‘buttonhole’ in English.

WATCH: Newlywed couple’s unique ‘first dance’

One couple from Portland, Oregon had a different take on their ‘first dance’. They decided to rock their wedding dance floor by performing a flash mob for their guests. The newlyweds caught their loved ones off guard and were praised with cheer. Watch the newlywed couple’s unique ‘first dance’:

Isaiah and Taylor Green-Jones wed on August 4, 2019. The pair dated for six years before deciding to tie the knot.

Taylor teaches a dance cardio class and paired up with a fellow dancer in order to plan and orchestrate the nuptial flash mob. The flash crew practised for one month before the big day.

Californian bride-to-be swallows her engagement ring

Of all the things that could go wrong before and on your wedding day, swallowing your engagement ring probably doesn’t make the cut. For one Californian bride-to-be, however, this unfortunate incident was a reality.

Jenna woke up on the morning of September 11, 2019 and realised that her engagement ring was missing. She remembered having a vivid nightmare which entailed her and Bob Howell, her future hubby, in a ‘very sketchy situation’. Her fiancé advised her to swallow her ring (in the dream) in order to protect it. She swallowed the ring and when she woke up, she just assumed that it was all a dream.

She realised that she must have actually ‘protected’ her engagement ring and ingested it. The rest of the day included many awkward and funny conversations with doctors and nurses. They proceeded to take an X-ray to verify the theory. Jenna did, in fact, swallow her engagement ring.

Jenna and Bob spent the day laughing and giggling as they moved from one doctor to the next. They finally decided to perform an upper endoscopy and assured her that it was ‘no big deal’.

The ring was recovered and given to Bob for safe keeping. After the procedure, her future hubby decided to treat her to some take-out and a yummy chocolate shake which she was very grateful for.

The ring is back with Jenna and the pair are still getting married.
