From Grace Kelly to Audrey Hepburn, high-neck wedding dresses have been a celebrity favourite for decades.

This style is classic and demure yet packs a punch. It also lends itself to a Victorian-inspired look. For brides wanting a more modest look on their big day, a high-neck gown offers coverage without compromising on style.

Here are a few ways to pull off this trend:

Essential workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic have faced much heartbreak over the last few months. Those who were meant to tie the knot during this time experienced even more sadness over having to cancel their big days to join the fight against coronavirus.

This past weekend, 100 couples from 15 different provinces in China married in a group wedding after their own were cancelled. The wedding was held at resort city Sanya in south China’s Hainan Province.

The group wedding was organised by the municipal government and supported by about 50 enterprises to honour all the workers who had to put their big day aside to work on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The couples were also provided with free round-trip airfare, accommodation, wedding photos and honeymoon tours.

Take a look at some of the stunning images from the big day HERE.

Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock recently became engaged to boyfriend of 4 years, footballer Andre Gray. The happy couple might tie the knot soon, according to Pinnock’s bandmate Jesy Nelson.

Gray popped the question on their 4-year anniversary in late May, which they celebrated at home with a romantic setup in their garden. Gray had set up an outdoor cinema and a walkway of fairylights. Halfway through the film, it cut out and a song special to their reationship began to play as videos and pictures of the couple flittered on screen.

The words “four years and counting” floated on screen, followed by “Will you marry me?” as Gray knelt on one knee to propose.

The engagement had been a long time coming for the couple. In an interview on the Heart breakfast show, Little Mix bandmate Jesy Nelson said that Pinnock has been waiting for years for the proposal

“Every time Andre does anything romantic, she messages us, she’s like ‘it could be now’, we’re like ‘Leigh…chill babe.'”

Nelson also revealed that Pinnock won’t wait long to walk down the aisle.

“Obviously we can’t give anything away, but we know it will probably be soon because Leigh-Anne has no patience,” she said. “She will just want to hurry up and do it, but it will probably be like the biggest most extravagant wedding ever, because that’s just Leigh-Anne all over.”

Nelson added that all the Little Mix members could be bridesmaids on the big day, and will likely wear something incredibly stylish.

“I think it will be the height of fashion, I mean I’ll wear whatever she tells us to.”

“I mean we don’t even know if we’re bridesmaids yet, I love that we’re going on as if we’re definitely bridesmaids.”

Local musician and producer Zakes Bantwini and singer, actress, model and television presenter Nandi Madida celebrate their 4-year wedding anniversary today, June 8.

Taking to Instagram, Bantwini wrote a sweet message dedicated to his wife on their special day.

“I am the luckiest of husbands, because I get to call you my wife, each and every day of my life. Happy wedding anniversary to us my love @nandi_madida ?, 4 years married today & 7 years together ? #happyanniversary.” he wrote.

Madida shared the same image, writing, “Singing* Do you know what today is? It’s our anniversary.. our anniversary! Happy anniversary to us! 7 years together, 4 years married! We’re NOT goals, just two imperfect humans who love each other so much and enjoy doing this life thing together ❤️. You’re such a gift in my life @Zakesbantwini.

It is unsure whether the image shared is also an announcement that the couple are expecting their third child, or just a throwback image.

The couple have been together for 7 years and married for four. The pair share two children together, Shaka and Queen Nefertiti Madida.

Dreaming of a truly unique wedding ring? We might have the stone for you. While emeralds and sapphires are understandably popular, a garnet is a standout choice for the unconventional bride.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BfOne2LhyF2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

This gemstone is typically red, but can actually be found in almost any colour and even a rare colourless form. It’s name comes from the latin word ‘garanatus’, meaning ‘seedlike’. This is in reference to the pomegranate, as red garnet stones closely resemble the bright red seeds one finds in this fruit.

In Greek mythology, the pomegranate was a gift given as a symbol of love and eternity. Hades gifted his love Persephone with a pomegranate before she left to ensure she returned home fast and safe.

According to Gem Society, garnet is one of the most complex gemstones in the world as it consists of several species and varieties.

“Unlike minerals such as beryl or corundum that are a single species with colored varieties created by trace elements, garnets come in different species and are never found in their pure state. They are always mixed with other garnet species,” write Gem Society on their website.

“Garnets are called a solid-state series or a blend. Some of these blends have distinct features and are recognized as varieties of garnets in themselves. What makes them all garnets is the same crystal structure and similar properties.”

Garnets were favoured by royalty. Red garnet necklaces adorned the necks of Egyptian pharaohs, and they were even buried with these mummified corpses in their tombs because they were considered prized possessions for the afterlife. In fact, a garnet bead necklace was found in a grave in Egypt that is estimated to date back to 3000 BC.

Garnets have featured in many ancient traditions and legends. In medieval times, people believed garnets could cure depression, protect against bad dreams and even relieve liver disease. Legend says that Noah used a glowing garnet to light the ark during wet days and nights. Garnet was even one of the gemstones on the breastplate of the High Priest, the chief religious official of Judaism from the early post-Exilic times.

Garnet is the birthstone for January, and has a 7-7.5 ranking on the Mohs scale of hardness. While it has a mid-level hardness and is thus a bit more susceptible to damage, the fact that this stone survived hundreds of thousands of years in a grave speaks to its durability.
Being a gemstone, it is much more affordable than a diamond. If you like the look of rubies but not the price tag, garnet is an excellent alternative as it shares many properties.

Esteemed Vogue editor Anna Wintour is often considered a trailblazing visionary. While this is often in reference to her mark on the fashion world, it also refers to her wedding day.

According to famed American fashion journalist and former American editor-at-large of Vogue magazine, Wintour included her exes in her intimate, 40-person wedding to David Shaffer back in 1984.

In his memoir, The Chiffon Trenches, Talley wrote, “I wore my best gray Dior suit and left straight from the office, arriving at Anna’s Sullivan Street home at twelve-thirty p.m. … The banquet table was filled with family and, strangely, her ex-boyfriends. They all came over from England for her wedding. I guess it was some kind of English custom.”

Maybe it is a British thing. Various members of the royal family have also extended invitations to former lovers. Prince Harry famously invited exes Cressida Bonas, Chelsy Davy, and Ellie Goulding to his 2018 wedding to Megan Markle. The New York Times reports that Prince William invited four of his exes to witness his 2011 nuptials to Kate Middleton. And, of course, Prince Charles had ex (and future wife) Camilla Parker-Bowles front and centre when he wed Princess Diana in 1981.

Inviting your ex to your big day seems pretty awkward, unless you have continued to have a non-romantic relationship with them post break-up. Or, maybe it’s an elaborate power move to prove to them that you could do better. Either way, it’s a pretty polarising decision that one has to make for themselves.
