A couple emerged victorious at a recent Cricket match in Australia this past weekend, when their proposal went viral.

During the Australia-India second ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday [November 29], a man in the stands went down on one knee to pop the question.

The man, wearing an Indian supporter t-shirt, proposed to his Australia-supporting girlfriend. Fellow sports-watchers cheered him on, and commentators also got into the action and narrated the entire proposal.

Of course she said yes, which lead to cheers all around. Even one of the cricket players on the field, Glenn Maxwell, applauded the pair.

Actress Megan Markle shocked the world when she announced her engagement to Prince Harry. The style icon opted for an unusal ring design that stands in stark contrast to sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s sapphire sparkler.

The couple announced their engagement at the Sunken Gardens of Kensington Palace on November 27, 2017, about a year after they went public with their relationship.

Wearing a white overcoat and nude heels, the actress went understated with her outfit to allow the focus to be on her engagement ring. The design did not disappoint.

Decorating her ring finger was a three-stone stunner, set on a gold band featuring a cushion-cut centre diamond from Botswana, a country close to Prince Harry’s heart.  Surrounding the centre stone are two round diamonds that once belonged to his mother, the late Princess Diana. The ring was made by royal jeweler Cleave and Company.

Come wedding day, the Duchess of Sessex was presented with her wedding ring, an elegant yellow gold band. The ring was a gift from Queen Elizabeth and, following tradition, was made from rare Welsh gold.

Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, and Princess Diana’s wedding rings were all fashioned from the same nugget of Welsh gold which came from a Welsh mine, Clogau St David’s at Bontddu. This gold is more valuable than gold from Australia or South Africa.

While there is only a sliver of the original gold left over, the Queen owns a large nugget of 21 carat Welsh gold which is held by the Crown Jewellers to be used for the royal wedding rings of today. Sarah, Duchess of York, Duchess Kate, and Duchess Meghan Markle all sport wedding bands made from this nugget.

Markle’s marvelous ring underwent a redesign during her pregnancy. Celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz resized and reset the ring to replace the gold band with a thin, yellow gold band set with micro-pavè diamonds.

After son Archie was born, Prince Harry gifted Megan with an eternity ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz. It features a channel setting with gold trim flanking each side of the ring. In another sweet addition, the birthstones of the young family (peridot, emerald, and sapphire) are inlaid on the underside of the ring.

Disagreeing with someone you love is never fun. Having conflicting feelings and opinions can often leave you feeling misunderstood or unloved. Your feelings are valid, but it’s also important to remember that sometimes, having an argument is the best thing for your marriage.

While it’s not always pleasant, arguing is a healthy and necessary part of a relationship. People won’t get along 100% of the time, and things are bound to end up in a disagreement at some point. Conflict can help couples understand each other more deeply and gain empathy for one another.

Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t shy away from an argument:

Arguing prevents issues from building up

If something bothers you, the best thing to do is to bring it up with your partner. Otherwise, it will grow and grow as you bottle up your frustrations, which will ultimately cause you to become resentful and eventually blow up. This can make the situation much worse than it ever needed to be.

Fighting keeps couples honest and accountable

When we argue, we reveal new facets of ourselves. It can help you realise how much you care about a particular topic, which in turn will help your partner understand you and your worldview more.

At the same time, having disagreements also exposes our shortcomings. Something you do and doesn’t give a second thought could be causing your partner frustration, and by arguing about it you learn about it. Criticism can help you grow and become a better person.

Fighting is an opportunity to better your communication

An argument can easily become tense when couples lead with anger. Instead, use this conflict as an opportunity to communicate more effectively. The focus should be on how you resolve your arguments in a healthy way.

Avoid insults and screaming, and focus on listening instead. Laying down your thoughts in a calm manner will help de-escalate a situation and show maturity.

India’s governing party has approved legislation to criminalise interfaith marriages in which one partner forces the other to convert to their religion. The legislation was passed on Tuesday [November 24] and applies to the state of Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state.

This controversial move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaign against interfaith marriages.

India, a predominantly Hindu country, has a 14% Muslim minority. Some Hindu far-right groups consider interfaith marriages as “love jihad”, and accuse Muslim men of marrying Hindu women specifically to convert them.

Under the new legislation, anyone found guilty of using marriage to force someone to convert to another religion may face a prison sentence of up to 10 years. According to Uttar Pradesh government minister Siddharth Nath Singh, criminalising this act will stop unlawful conversions and bring women justice.

Couples of two different religions will be required to give two months’ notice to a district magistrate before tying the knot. They will be given the go-ahead to marry if the official has no objections. Once the Uttar Pradesh state governor has approved the decree, it will be made law.

The new decree has received sharp criticism.

Menaka Guruswamy, a senior lawyer in India said the law “seems to violate constitutional values of equality, non-discrimination, dignity, and very basic ethos that courts have always recognised, that adults can make their own free choice. All men and women should question this idea of their adulthood being questioned and their free will being second-guessed by the state.”

“The effect of the law is to tighten the grip of religion over individual liberty and choice,” added senior lawyer and human rights activist Vrinda Grover. “It is yet another means to control women’s sexuality, agency, and right to choice. It also infantilises women and portrays them as gullible fools, incapable of making decisions about their life.”

India has been gripped by controversy related to interfaith relationships for the last few weeks. Prime Minister Modi’s party registered a court case against two Netflix executives for their film ‘A Suitable Boy’, which they argue contains content that allegedly offends the religious sentiments of Hindus. The key scene they oppose is one in which a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy kiss against what appears to be a backdrop of a Hindu temple. Many Indians called for the series to be removed and for people to boycott Netflix.

In October, jewellery brand Tanishq came under fire for their advertisement which featured a Hindu-Muslim family celebrating a baby shower. They were forced to withdraw the ad from TV and all social media channels.

It turns out not even a wedding day can stop this committed sportsman from playing for his team. Soon after tying the knot, Queensland Lions football player Luke Borean quickly traded in this tux for his goalkeeper gloves to win a 4-1 victory over Peninsula Power on the very same day.

Borean and partner Ellen Hepburn’s big day clashed with the football match after the COVID-19 pandemic extended the season.

Lions coach Darren Sime told ABC News that he asked Borean to help him prepare reserve keeper Ryan Murphy for the match, but Boren told him it’s all under control.
“‘There was never any hesitation. Soccer has always come first with us,” Ellen said. “And, come on, it’s Luke, so what else was going to happen?”

The pair said ‘I do’ to one another on Saturday, November 21. Soon after exchanging vows, the pair headed out to Brisbane where Borean joined his team to compete in the match. Hepburn, still in her wedding gown, cheered her new husband on from the sidelines.

“Obviously the club would never, ever stand in the way of a player’s wedding, you have to celebrate those moments,” said coach Sime. “But they chose to celebrate that moment with us, which we’re really thankful for.”

“It is not every day you get to bring your bride and wedding party to a game of football!!” joked the Lions social media. “Tonight, Luke Borean our goalkeeper married his partner, Ellen Hepburn in a great ceremony. They enjoyed the reception and then all headed out to Peninsula to watch Luke play for a spot in next week’s grand final.”

Japanese lawmakers are considering creating a new honourary title for female imperial family members who lose their royal status after marriage, in order to allow them to continue engaging in public duties.

The Japanese Imperial Family is believed to be the oldest hereditary royal family in the world, and their traditions go back hundreds of years. Under the 1947 Imperial House Law, women may not ascend the throne. This law also dictates that the noble line may only run through imperial-born males. Even if an imperial woman is allowed to remain the royal family, her sons may not inherit because their father is not imperial.

The law also states that while women who marry into the imperial family gain royal status, imperial women who marry someone of no aristocratic or royal background cannot remain official members of the family. As such, they lose their royal title and position in her family. This rule does not apply to male members of the imperial family.

Over the years, many imperial women have had to leave the royal family for love, causing concerns that there will not be enough royals left to perform their duties. At least eight members of the royal family have been forced to give up their royal status for marriage since the law was imposed.

The Japanese government are now considering giving married female imperial family members the honourary title ‘kojo’, which will allow them to retain a small status in the royal family. Instead of revising the Imperial House Law, government are considering creating special legislation to support this.

This may be an easier pill to swallow for conservatives who are opposed to women ascending the throne or staying in the royal family after marrying a commoner.

If this comes into effect, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako’s daughter Princess Aiko, as well as Crown Prince Akishino’s daughters Princess Mako and Princess Kako will be among those to receive the new title.

Proposals are romantic occasions, and usually don’t involve a physical response. However, this bride misunderstood the moment and ended up slapping her partner as he popped the question.

In a video posted to TikTok, Gracie O’Neill shared a throwback video from her husband’s Disneyland proposal years ago. The pair pose for pictures in front of Disney’s castle before her husband, or boyfriend at the time, goes down on one knee to propose.

As he does, his bride-to-be jokingly slaps him on top of the head, believing the moment to be a fake proposal. Her husband has reportedly “fake proposed” to her before.

“This time I’m not kidding,” her groom-to-be says in the video. Gracie appears shocked and breaks down in tears of happiness before accepting the proposal.

The original TikTok video has since gone viral, earning over a 5.6million views.
