If you love the sound of crashing waves and the feeling of sand between your toes, you should consider having a beach wedding. It’s important to spend your special day in a place that makes you and your partner happy. So, with summer fast approaching, why not celebrate your nuptials tropical-style?

Tropical beaches are specific to certain geographic areas throughout the world that are near the equator. The hot, sunny and humid climate in these regions make for splendid tropical fruits and flowers. For a wedding in this vein, think bright colours, large flowers and leaves and fresh, juicy fruits. Oh, and coconuts, of course.

This theme will fit a laid-back couple perfectly as it allows for a more casual setting. However, it is easy to spice up if you would like it to be more formal.

Here are some key components to keep in mind:

    Decor

The decor should rely on the natural surroundings. White sand, blue water and green palm trees or other vegetation are likely to already be part of the setting. Add some bold extras that tie in with the theme such as yellow and pink by using fruits and flowers.

    Dress

Typically, comfortable attire will blend in well with the beach. Opt for a short dress or a two-piece in light, flowing fabric to avoid the heat. However, if you are keen on rocking that perfect diamond-studded princess dress, don’t let anyone stop you!

    Shoes

Consider where you will be walking. If there is a pathway to the altar and the reception is indoors, high heels will work. But if you plan on getting onto the sand, grass or rocks, release your inner child and go bare foot! You can also go with flats or pumps.

    Bouquet

Tropical beaches are teeming with brilliant flowers. Use a professional florist to help you choose your selection of flora, and refrain from picking them straight from the environment as it might be illegal. Some beautiful tropical flowers to consider are:

    – African Violet

    – Blanket Flower

    – Blood Lily

    – Blue Passion Flower

    – Bougainvillea Glabra

    Invitations

Here you get to go wild! Make sure you have your colour scheme figured out first, then select stationery that complement it. Two or three of your main colours are enough to use, as more might seem overwhelming.

    Reception

Keep things beachy with the reception and have it on the sand too if the weather is good. Try not to use small decor items that may fall from the tables and get lost in the sand. If it’s very warm, host the reception under trees or a tent, or set up umbrellas to provide shade.

    Drinks

No tropical island is complete without the necessary drinks. Beautifully crafted cocktails are a must. Serve drinks in hollow coconuts, pineapples or watermelons and add some frozen fruit pieces like berries that can serve as ice.

Elton Jantjies has been named one of South Africa’s best rugby players and is known for his speed on the field, but not much is known about his life off the field. The fly-half from Gauteng has played for a host of teams from the Lions to the Stormers and of course, the Springboks when they won the Rugby World Cup.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B9YOU80n04D/

Jantjies met his fiance, model Iva Ristic online in 2011 and felt an immediate connection, but due to their careers involving a lot of travel, they only met in person in 2014.

According to Ristic, it was love at first sight. The two soon began dating, and welcomed three children into the world before Jantjies finally decided to pop the big question in 2019.

According to Huisgenoot, he took her to a fancy restaurant and sneakily put the ring in her Cosmopolitan cocktail. “I was so busy taking pictures of the beautiful drink that I didn’t even see the ring!” Ristic said. Only when Jantjies actually went on his knee did she realise what was happening. Of course, she said yes!

The two tied the knot shortly before the World Cup kicked off in 2019. On Ristic’s Instagram it seems the two had an engagement party with friends and family, but not a large wedding. According to Magzter, they had a small, intimate ceremony with close family, but are considering having a large celebration later on.

It’s nearly spring time and that means flowers! If you love the soft and feminine look, floral headpieces are the way to go. Wear a flower crown, clip-in piece or simply fasten some loose flowers in your hairdo.

Remember to use seasonal flowers, and ask your stylist about which flowers will stay fresh and perky for longer. They will add a romantic touch to any look, depending on your style.

The white wedding has earned its place in the traditional Western society, but in recent years, more and more couples have deviated from tradition. Sometimes, you just want something a little different. Not a lot different, just a little.

The champagne-coloured wedding dress does that effortlessly. You don’t have to go all out with bright and bold colours if that’s not your style. You can easily just veer a little off path and opt for the colour that will make you look and feel as sophisticated (yet fun) as a glass of bubbly.

The much-loved power couple, actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have captivated Hollywood (and beyond) for years. Will, known for getting his big break in the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has gone on to star in countless runaway success silverscreen films. He also launched a music career, getting the world to strut their moves on the dance floor to hits like Switch.

Jada, an equally successful entertainment powerhouse, also started out on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where the two met. She has also starred in movies like The Matrix and did voice acting for the Madagascar trilogy.

But underneath all the glamour and fame, the two have also made headlines for their embattled marriage. According to Oprah Magazine they started dating in 1995 after Will’s first marriage to actress Sheree Zampino Fletcher ended.  Will asked Jada if she was seeing anyone, and she replied no. “Cool, you’re seeing me now,” he responded smoothly, and things took off!

The lovebirds got engaged in 1997, and the day after the engagement, they found out that Jada was pregnant. They held a private ceremony at a hotel in Baltimore, Jada’s hometown. According to People, there were no invitations sent out as the pair wanted to stay below the radar.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7mvJaPl76r/

Throughout the years they have stuck together, but not without a few bumps in the road. After a public statement Jada made in 2013, many took her comments to mean that she and Will are in an open marriage and seeing other people. “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay’,” she said.

Later, however, the actress took to social media to clarify, and said that this was not the case. “Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship… this means we have a GROWN one,” she said on Facebook.

However, more recently, another incident rocked the boat. In 2016, rumours did the rounds that Jada had an affair with singer August Alsina. Jada and Will were reportedly on a “break” at the time, and Jada became good friends with Alsina after which they began a relationship.  At the same time, Will was said to be “involved” with model Heidy de la Rosa.

“We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time,” Jada said, according to Elle. Neither of the two regarded their extra-marital relationships as wrong, and they never got divorced.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B8g4wcPh64V/

The two did decide to get back together, however, and are still together today. Stronger than ever, the movie stars say they are and will remain married, but not in the traditional sense.

“We don’t even say we’re married anymore,” Will said. “We refer to ourselves as ‘life partners’, where you get into that space where you realize you are literally with somebody for the rest of your life. There’s no deal breakers. There’s nothing she could do – ever – nothing that would break our relationship. She has my support til death, and it feels so good to get to that space.”

The couple share two children and will celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary this year.

If you and your partner are avid campers, you might want your big day to reflect your adventurous spirits. With summer drawing near, it’s the perfect time to have an outdoor wedding.

Celebrating your love for each other with your friends and family out in nature, doing what you love. What more could you want?

You are also likely to save some money as your down-to-earth decor, food and attire will be more budget-friendly. Here are some tips to help you plan.

Firstly, you’ll need to keep some practical things in mind:

    – If your wedding is in a forest, mountain or bushveld location, the terrain might be uneven and high heels are not ideal.

    – There will probably be bugs and mosquitoes!

    – Only make fires where it is legal and safe to do so.

    – Check the weather for wind and rain.

    – If it is a remote location, clear directions will need to be given to guests and vendors.

    – If you expect guests to hike anywhere at all, make sure everyone is fit and healthy enough to do so. Also, make sure everyone is told this information explicitly and are comfortable with it.

How to set up the perfect camping style wedding:

    – Attire

You can decide how formal or informal you want the wedding to be. It is likely to be slightly more informal, as camping is usually a low-key activity. Dress comfortably, but don’t skimp! A boho style works well. You can still wear that magical dress – it’s your day after all. Inform your guests that ‘smart casual’ is accepted.

    – Food

Camp food time! Think slow roasts, pies or even something as simple as hot dogs or burgers. This is not a 5-star buffet. Don’t forget to roast marshmallows! Everything should be quick and easy, but flavourful and simply delicious. Speak to your caterer about what’s feasible for your location, and try stick with food that can be prepped off-site beforehand.

    – Drinks

During summer, think cold and refreshing soft drinks and beers. Get creative with the drinks station to keep with the theme, such as a rowboat or hammock. You can also use picnic baskets to hold drinks or hand out coffee flasks or travel mugs for guests to drink from.

    – Decor

This is where rough meets chic. You can have all the adventure, plus all the beauty! Let nature be your backdrop, and keep extras minimal. Decorate tables with wooden items and use theme-inspired pieces like lanterns, flashlights and boots for a cute feel. Stick with greens, browns and other neutral colours to blend with the environment.

If you’re all about the glitz and glam, heels are for you. Many people love shoes, but the glamorous bride adores them. Your wedding is your chance to wear the most extravagant, sexy and gorgeous pair of heels you have ever laid eyes on!

Remember, choose a style that speaks to you. You have to be comfortable walking and dancing in them (unless you’re planning to change shoes for the reception).

Make sure they are good quality, as you don’t want to lose a crystal or snap a strap on the big day.

In light of the national night-time curfew from 10pm to 4am during lockdown, wedding celebrations are looking a bit different. Even though large gatherings are not permitted yet, couples may be legally married at the Magistrate’s Office and then usually have a small intimate celebration with their immediate families.

If you don’t want to worry about breaking curfew, have a lunch celebration. Spring is drawing near which means lovely outdoor weather, perfect for a day time feast. Here are our top tips on how to pull it off.

    Decide on indoor or outdoor

For a daytime wedding, both outdoor and indoor venues will work. Decide which you prefer, taking into consideration the season and the climate, as well as factors like space and accessibility for your guests. If you live in a very windy city, an outdoor option might not work if the area is not protected from wind. However, if you’re planning a summer wedding in an area with good weather, an outdoor venue will be exquisite.

    Have a fabulous drinks station

Even though we are still under an alcohol ban, there’s no excuse for skimping on the drinks station. As the season’s change, cater appropriate drinks. Fresh fruit juices and cold ice teas are vital on a hot summer’s day, while coffee and tea are a much-needed comfort during winter.

    Replace the dancing

Since the wedding will happen during the afternoon, your guests likely won’t be strutting their dance moves while the sun is still out. Instead, have fun games to entertain guests, like croquet, giant Jenga, giant Scrabble, or ring toss. If games are not your vibe, add a fun element with karaoke, or provide tables with board and card games.

    Consider the weather

Depending on the season and what part of the country you live in, the weather probably differs throughout the day. Even in summer, late afternoons can get chilly, especially for older guests. Provide blankets, just in case. Similarly, if it’s very hot and an outdoor wedding, provide fabric umbrellas or Chinese fans for guests to cool down with. Take into account whether or not it is likely to rain and make sure there is a cover, if so.
