Iconic musician Rod Stewart and English model, photographer and TV personality Penny Lancaster have reached a new milestone. The couple recently celebrated their 13-year wedding anniversary, and they seem happier than ever.

Despite lockdown, the pair still honoured their special day. Lancaster shared an image to Instagram, revealing that the pair went to Hyde Park in London and had a take-out lunch to celebrate.

“Celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary with a trip into London for a take out in Hyde park, cheers everyone ? good health!” she captioned the image.

Stewart also took to Instagram to express his love for his long-time partner.

“Cheers to my beautiful wife, 13-in-a-row #weddinganniversary,” he wrote.

The couple began dating in 1999 and married in 2007. Stewart explains that Lancaster changed him for the better and helped him realise the importance of a long-lasting, healthy marriage.

Stewart still seems to be head-over-heels for his wife. Earlier this year, he told The Mirror that, “They have not invented the words for how I feel about her. She is everything”.

They have two children together: 12-year-old Alastair Wallace Stewart and 9-year-old Aiden Patrick Stewart.

On Friday, June 12, Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Daniel Westling, celebrated a decade of marriage. To mark this momentous occasion, the pair had a photoshoot at Gustav III’s pavilion.

Shot by photographer Elisabeth Toll, the series of enchanting photos were posted to their official Instagram account. Showing off various elegant outfit changes, the images were accompanied with a caption explaining the reason for the photoshoot.

“On Friday, the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary. Ahead of the wedding day, photographer Elisabeth Toll has taken new official portrait pictures of the Crown Princess couple. The photographs are taken in Gustav III’s pavilion at Haga.”

Princess Victoria met her future husband in 2001 when she moved back to Sweden after completing her studies at Yale University in the United States. She had just broken up with a long-term boyfriend at the time.

When she moved home, she tried to get settled into a new routine and as such, she joined a small gym in Stockholm. As it happened, the gym was co-founded by her now-husband, Daniel Westling.

He then became her personal trainer, and it is reported that it took a while for their friendship to turn to love.

They faced many challenges together, as Westling was unaccustomed to the fame that came with being with a royal and the King and Queen were unsure of whether he would be able to handle the role of being a prince. It has also been reported that the King did not want his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he had married one.

The pair pushed through all the trials and tribulations and proved everyone wrong. They tied the knot in 2010 and celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year.

They now have two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, and are truly living happily ever after. Their love story is one straight from the loveliest of fairytales.

The British Royal family are sticklers for tradition. The many Royal brides who have walked down the aisle over the decades are all connected in a number of ways. From the wedding rings made from the same nugget of welsh gold to brides incorporating orange blossom into their dress design, these royal brides are bonded together forever.

Another thing British Royal brides have in common are their wedding bouquets. While they look different, each royal bride since 1858 has had a spring of myrtle in her bouquet. What’s even more interesting is that the sprigs all come from Queen Victoria‘s 170-year-old garden.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BdCheyEHheC/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Myrtle is said to represent love, fertility and innocence. The flower has been growing at Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s holiday home in the Isle of Wight, for about 170 years and its descendants still bloom today. The plant was gifted to Queen Victoria in 1845 by Prince Albert’s grandmother. Queen Victoria planted the myrtle at her home, and her daughter carried a spring from that myrtle bush when she married in 1858.

Since then, myrtle has appeared in the bouquets of iconic royal brides like Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton and Megan Markle.

In 1923, Queen Elizabeth built on this tradition when she placed her bouquet in the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey in a gesture of remembrance for her late brother, who died at the Battle of Loos in 1915. She also did this to honour the millions of others killed and injured in World War I. She then continued to walk down the aisle sans bouquet.

Since this day, many other royal brides have followed in her footsteps. The only difference is that they lay their bouquets down after the ceremony, not before. Most recently, Duchess of Sussex Meghan laid her flowers on the tomb as she left the church.

Western wedding ceremonies come with a number of traditions, from the presence of a ring bearer to the garter toss and even saving the top tier of the wedding cake for a year later. Similarly, different cultures across the world have their own interesting wedding traditions.

Being aware of different cultures and their traditions helps us be more accepting of others and saves you from the embarrassment of attending a wedding of a different culture and having no clue what’s going on!

To help you enlighten yourself, here are a few traditions and customs of Chinese weddings:

    Collecting the Bride

Prior to the wedding, the groom decorates the car and collects his bride in a lively procession. As the groom begins his journey to the bride, firecrackers are set off, and drums and gongs are banged. A young child often leads the procession, along with the groom. This symbolises future children for the couple.

The procession walks with lanterns and banners and musical instruments are payed too.

    Wedding Dress

It is tradition for a Chinese Bride to wear a red dress, known as a ‘qipao’, and to hide her face with a red veil. Red is a symbol of happiness, good luck, and a prosperous future.

Many brides today have both a white bridal gown and a red wedding dress.

    The banquet

The banquet is a lavish affair. At the beginning of the dinner, the bride commonly changes into her traditional wedding dress. In the past, both sets of parents throw separate feasts however these days the feasts are commonly combined. The feast comes with about six courses each. The bride and groom both change clothing between the 3rd and 6th courses.

At the banquet, guests sign their names in a book or on a scroll when they present their gifts.

    Arriving home

Once again, firecrackers are set off as the newly married couple arrives at their new home. A red mat is laid out so that the bride’s feet do not touch the floor as she makes her way into the house.

    Chinese Tea Ceremony

The couple’s families are formally introduced during the Tea Ceremony, at which they commonly drink Tsao Chün, a Chinese Tea. After everyone’s cups are empty, the couple is given a red envelope which is considered to be lucky and is filled with money and at times jewellery too.

Tea is served by the newlyweds, as this ceremony takes place either immediately after the wedding or the next day.

TV and the LGBT community have come a long way. From a time when the idea of an openly gay or bisexual character was thought to be scandalous, we really have come a long way in celebrating all kinds of couples and sexualities.

There is still more work to do so that this community is properly represented, but here are some of the best of those couples who have already graced our screens.

Cameron and Mitch , Modern Family

When the show first aired, having a gay couple among the main cast wasn’t incredibly common, especially when the storyline focused on families. While there has been some criticism of their portrayal of this couple, Cam and Mitch have become celebrated among fans of the show and occasional watchers.

From their legal wedding as the US granted marriage rights to LGBT couples to them raising their adopted daughter, Cam and Mitch inspire any couple to work together to overcome life’s challenges.

    Ray and Kevin, Brooklyn 99

Ray Holt, the stoic police captain in the show bucks the traditional stereotype of the flamboyant gay man. Him and his husband Kevin support each others very different careers and find affection and love in their shared interest. The couple also represent the struggle LGBT couples have had to suffer through to get where we are today, with references often made to the hostile, homophobic work and social environments they faced as both a gay and mixed-race couple.

Yorkie and Kelly, Black Mirror, San Junipero

This episode was an interesting turn for the often miserable, forewarning series. Unlike other episodes which showed how technology could hurt us, San Junipero showed how Yorkie could come together because of it. The entire episode leaves you rooting for this couple, who eventually find happiness in San Junipero (which was filmed in beautiful South Africa, proving heaven is in fact Camps Bay beach).

This comedy series is so outrageous but this heartwarming couple and love story gave some heart to the show. They compliment each other and show how you’re meant to support your partner, especially through tough moments.

    Ian and Mickey, Shameless

This couple really showed the difficulties of being openly gay and how hard it is to come to terms with your sexuality yourself, never mind with another person as well. Mickey went from homophobic bully to loving partner through the series, struggling with his own self-loathing as a result of ingrained hatred from his family. The sometimes hard to watch ups and downs truly reflect how hard society pushes people to deny who they are and how having someone believe in you can make a difference.

One of the most-loved couples on TV, they have been through a lot. We mean A LOT. From a plane crash to a leg amputation, they have been through it. While not the only LGBT couple on the show, they were the first and most remembered by those who have stuck with it and those who gave the show up.

    Santana and Brittney, Glee

From best friends to wives, the couple journey of these two Cheerios was not simple but a great one to watch. Also not the only LGBT couple on the show, Santana and Brittney were memorable as they weren’t openly out from the beginning of the show. The audience got to grow with these two and experience their journey to their personal truths and to each other.

They may not have ended up together but they were great while they lasted. They were loving and neither a stereotype. It was also great to watch a couple move through the experience of wanting different things and still remaining friends once they have parted.

    Omar and Brandon, The Wire

Omar is one of the first LGBT black characters portrayed on TV with the nuance and complexity such a depiction deserves. Their intimate moments are shattered by Brandon’s tragic and gruesome end, but then again this is The Wire.

    Eric and Adam, Sex Education

This is a controversial one as many people didn’t think these two should have ended up together. Eric chose Adam, which is testimony to their connection. When Adam asks Eric to hold his hand, even those who don’t back this pairing were melting. While it may not work out as Adam has much to work through, it was a nice ending to this fraught relationship.

This couple were supernaturally awesome. From their first meeting to their telekinetic escape, the audience were captured by their connection. Although we had to watch the tragic end as Tara’s dies, they will always be among the best couples on TV.

Angel and Papi are perfect. He entirely devotes his support and love to her as she strives for her dreams, while walking at Ballroom, auditioning for modelling jobs and in every day life. While they have some ups and downs, Papi is always there for her and their engagement is the cherry on top of the second season.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West somehow always manage to be the talk of the town. Recently, they’ve been in the news for something as simple as a birthday wish between a wife and husband.

Now, details of their wedding, specifically the enormous prices of vendors, the wedding dress, and more are of interest to the public. According to Hello Magazine, the pair who are now in their 6th year of marriage spent a whopping R103 402 500 ($6million) on their wedding weekend.

No doubt it was an extravagant affair, with details to die for. The famed coupled spared no expense.

Taking place at a venue in Florence, Italy, they were accompanied at their wedding by 200 guests. The venue reportedly charged R5 181 854 (or £240,000). That price excluded any and all extras, such as flowers and decorations. The cake, which had 7 tiers, and took 3 people to deliver, cost  R51 871 (£2,400).

The Wests also, of course, provided private jets for their guests, to transport them from Paris to Florence. Per jet, they dished out R972 416 (or £45,000).

Kim’s bespoke couture dress, designed by Riccardo Tisci (the former creative director at Givenchy) cost her R3 846 615 (£178,000).  The total of her all other outfits she wore, including dresses for her hen party and for the rehearsal dinner, came to R1 231 718 ( £57,000).

This was not even everything. There were a number of other costs attached to the wedding which have not been detailed here, including the wedding menu, the menu at their rehearsal dinner at the Palace of Versaille, and more.

Six years after their massive, lavish wedding, the pair seem happier than ever. They share 4 children – North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm – and are always seen supporting each other wholeheartedly.

For fans of royals, never-before-seen photos are always a treat. When they’re posted for an anniversary, it’s even more special. Prince Carl Phillip and Princess Sofia of Sweden shared special unseen photos of their wedding day on their 5th anniversary, June 13.

On their Instagram page, the pair commemorated the special day by showing candid images of their wedding day, including a kiss between the two, the chefs preparing food, and a glimpse inside the church.

Along with the stunning images, they wrote a sweet caption.

“Sometimes every person comes to a decisive choice; a choice that determines one’s future and is about who one is and above all, who one wants to be. And often it takes courage. Courage not to choose the easy path just because it is easy, without courage to stay on the hard road because it’s right,” they said, adding: “Today we are celebrating our five-year wedding anniversary.”

The pair tied the knot on June 13, 2015, at the royal chapel in Stockholm. Like most royals, their guests included family, friends, and other royals and after the ceremony, they took a carriage through the streets.

The royals now share two children. Prince Alexander was born in 2016, a year after their marriage, and Prince Gabriel was born in 2017.

Wedding dresses are very rarely short. However, a handful of celebrities opted for a modern twist for their big day by sporting short gowns to say “I do” in. From Cindy Crawford to Kiera Knightley, take a look at five celebs who kicked traditionalism to the curb.

    Cindy Crawford

Cindy Crawford married Rande Gerber in an off-the-rack Galliano slip. Their wedding was a secret and so Crawford lied to her stylist, saying she was attending a black tie event and needed a dress that was either black or white.

    Kiera Knightley

Kiera Knightley stunned in a classic pale pink tulle Chanel dress when she married James Righton in 2014. She re-wore the dress on a number of occasions afterwards – the controversy!

    Sharon Tate

Actress Sharon Tate married director Roman Polanski in a short silk wedding gown. She sported puffy shoulders and the dress was a yellowy-orange colour. In 2018, the dress sold for $56 250 in Julien’s Auctions in LA.

    Mia Farrow

Mia Farrow married Frank Sinatra in Las Vegas in 1966 and wore a gorgeous short dress for the occasion.

    Nancy Shevell

Nancy Shevell sported an above-the-knee white dress for her wedding to Paul McCartney.

Wedding favours are the perfect way for newlyweds to thank their guests for attending their special day. They’re often tailored to the couple, and range from edible treats to easily DIY-ed wonders.

Hangover kits are cute and tongue-in-cheek, but not so appropriate for little ones. If you plan on inviting chidren to your wedding, make sure they feel special with a wedding favour designed specifically for them.
