Princess Raiyah of Jordan married British journalist Ned Donovan on Tuesday, July 7 in Engalnd, making this the first Royal Wedding to go ahead amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The couple had to change their wedding plans following the pandemic. Originally, they were set to marry in Jordan in April but went with England for safety reasons.

“Thank you all for your kind messages on our wedding! While it was originally planned for April in Jordan, the pandemic derailed those plans and it was safer for my husband’s family to hold it in the UK. God willing we look forward to celebrating in Jordan once the situation allows,” she wrote on Twitter.

The pair were engaged on October 26, 2019.

Donovan is the grandson of author Roald Dahl, and a British writer based in London. He previously worked as a journalist for the Mail on Sunday and The Times.

The Princess is a decorated academic, with a Master’s degree in Japanese Studies from Edinburgh University and a Master’s degree in Japanese Literature from Columbia University. She is currently studying towards her Ph.D in pre-modern Japanese literature at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

She is the fourth child of the late King Hussein of Jordan and Queen Noor.

Princess Beatrice was set to marry fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in May, but has since postponed the wedding due to the ongoing pandemic.

David and Victoria Beckham celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary this past weekend. The pair, despite their massive fame, did what most others would do on an occasion like this and had a romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Posh Spice gave fans an inside look into the date night on her Instagram page. She posted a picture of the two of them looking cozy and casual in a rustic restaurant, with a dessert laid out in front of them. Written on the plate in chocolate were the words “Happy Anniversary”.

On the day of their anniversary, the former footballer took to Instagram to celebrate his marriage to Victoria. He posted a video showing images of the pair through the years, with some snippets of Victoria performing with the Spice Girls.

“Well about 23 years ago I was sat in a room with Gary Neville and the spice girls were on the TV and I turned around to him and said ‘ohhhh I like that one in the little black catsuit’ ? who would have thought that all these years later we are celebrating 21 years of marriage and have 4 of the most beautiful and perfect kids.. Thank you & Happy Anniversary I Love You ♥️,” he wrote.

A few months before they married, they welcomed their first child, Brooklyn. On July 4, 1999, the famed couple tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin. Posh wore a Vera Wang gown, paired with a gold crown designed by jeweller Slim Barrett.

When we think of royal weddings, very specific images come to mind. We think of Princess Diana’s extravagant gown with its never-ending train or Megan Markle’s classic bateau Givenchy dream. A dress less known but even more dramatic is that of Queen Letizia of Spain.

This royal, who was a successful news anchor before she became queen, has gone down in history for having the most expensive wedding dress in history. She walked down the aisle to marry then heir to the throne Prince Felipe on May 22, 2004, in a gown that cost an estimated $8 million (R135 881 600). The pair married in the Almudena Cathedral at the Royal Palace of Madrid, Spain, and became king and queen in 2014.

The off-white dress was designed by Royal couturier Manuel Pertegaz, and featured long sleeves, a unique structured open collar and a four and-a-half metre train. There were floral motifs embroidered onto the silk gown in silver and gold thread.

The singer posted a photo of the two of them holding a crystal butterfly, which was an anniversary gift from Johnson.

“Eric Johnson, my Husband, I love you. 6yrs ago today I married my perfect soulmate. Our unity was written in God’s sky of colliding stars. Together we manifest dreams, nurture desire, and hold space. Destined, it always has been and always will be, forevermore. Remember the time when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were Hollywood’s ‘it couple’? If you can’t we don’t blame you. It seems like decades ago that this strange pairing entered the celebrity lexicon and caused many theories on the validity of their relationship to emerge.

We take a trip down memory lane to remember this unique celebrity couple.

    The beginning

Before the couple began dating, in 2004 Kate Holmes said in an interview that she had always dreamed of marrying Tom Cruise. At the time, she was engaged to fellow actor Chris Klein. A month after their split, she stepped out in public with none other than Tom Cruise in April, 2005. The pair were pictured in Rome, where Cruise was being honoured with the David di Donatello Award for lifetime achievement.

Their love must have developed very quickly. In May, Cruise made his iconic couch-jumping proclamation of love for Holmes during an interview on the Oprah Winfrey show.

“I’m in love. I’m in love and it’s one of those things where you want to be cool, like, ‘Yeah I like her’ … that’s not how I feel. I wanted to meet this person and I met her and she’s extraordinary,” he told the legendary daytime talk show host.

Love, marriage and a baby carriage:

The pair were engaged in June 2005 after only a few months of dating. Cruise proposed over a candle-lit dinner at the Eiffel Tower with a teardrop shaped ring.

Things continued to move fast for the couple. In October 2005, they announced that they were expecting their first child together. Their daughter Suri Cruise was born in April 2006. Cruise already has two adopted children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Cruise and Holmes married in November 2006 in an extravagant three-day wedding at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. During the ceremony, the couple made the traditional Scientology pledge, which reportedly included the strange vow,”Girls need clothes and food, tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, a cat.”

Giorgio Armani designed Holmes’s stunning off-the-shoulder gown as well as Cruise’s wedding suit and little Suri’s ivory silk tulle dress to match her mother. It took 350 hours to cover the gown with Swarovski crystals, and another 70 hours for the veil to be made. Armani also designed a peach silk organza reception dress and an ivory silk honeymoon ensemble for the actress.

It was a star-studded affair, naturally. The guest list included famed faces like Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Jim Carrey, John Travolta and Jenny McCarthy.

This was the first and only marriage thus far for Holmes, and the third for Cruise, who had previously been hitched to actresses Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers.

The couple and daughter Suri honeymooned in the Maldives.

For the first few years of their marriage, the pair continued to share their love with the world. In May 2012, Cruise told Playboy that Holmes is an extraordinary person who has made him very happy.

    War of the Worlds:

Within the last year of their marriage, rumours circulated about Cruise’s controlling behaviour. He reportedly insisted on being on set whenever she filmed a movie, and did not want her to shoot any sexual or nude scenes. As a result, Holmes had little acting work during their marriage.

In June 2012, Holmes shockingly filed for divorce after five years of marriage.

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy,” said a rep for Cruise.

Holmes received primary custody of Suri, and Tom was granted visitation rights.

    Scientology scares:

For the majority of their relationship, many believed that Cruise had worked with the church of Scientology, which he is a member of, to find the perfect wife. A Vanity Fair article reports that Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige headed a top-secret mission to find Cruise a girlfriend back in 2004. They reportedly auditioned actresses who were already scientologists to fit the part. After failed relationships, Cruise settled on Holmes, who was not a scientologist, soon after she made that comment about wanting to marry Tom Cruise.

A few years after their divorce, Holmes reportedly began dating fellow actor Jamie Foxx. The couple went public in 2017 after years of rumours, as a clause in her divorce agreement said that Holmes was not allowed to publicly date anyone for five years following divorce.

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts and her cinematographer husband Danny Moder have officially been married for 18 years. The typically private couple took to Instagram to celebrate their anniversary.

Roberts posted a sweet photo of the couple to honour their big day, simply captioning it “18 years #heckyes”.

The actress and the cinematographer met on the set of The Mexican, for which Moder was a cameraman and Roberts was starring in. They fell in love and married two years later in a surprise wedding at Roberts’ ranch in Taos, New Mexico on July 4, 2002.

Roberts wore a pale pink cotton halter dress with pearl and antique beading, and hand-painted floral detail for the low-key nuptials. Moder wore a red ruffled shirt and tan pants.

The pair are still going strong and share three children: son Henry Daniel and twins Hazel Oatricia and Phinnaeus Walter.

Actor Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on July 1. The happy couple honoured the occasion with some sweet Instagram posts.

Baldwin shared two images of himself and his wife making their way down the aisle on their wedding day. “Eight years ago today. Luckiest day of my life,” he captioned one of the images.

Being the funny-man that he is, he captioned the second photo: “I knew my marriage was solid because Steve Higgins was there to bless it”, as he can be seen shaking his fellow comedian’s hand in the image.

His wife kept her tributes more simple, posting a picture from their wedding day captioned “Happy 8 years”. Hilaria also posted some candid images of the pair on the beach, wearing their protective masks. “8 years later,” she said.

Their anniversary comes soon after their announcement in April that they are expecting their fifth child together.

“Sound up … I’ll let the baby do the talking because I don’t have the words to express how this sound makes us feel,” she captioned a video of her showing off her belly, as the baby’s heartbeat played in the background.

“Just got the great news that all is well and all is healthy with this little munchkin. I wanted to share this with you? Here we go again ?,” she added.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B-pt8e_noPE/

The new baby will join several siblings, Carmen Gabriela (6), Romeo Alejandro David (almost 2), Leonardo Ángel Charles (3), and Rafeal Thomas (4). Alec also has a 24-year-old daughter, Ireland, with his previous wife Kim Basinger.

Alec and Hilaria met in 2011.  Baldwin once said: “I wandered into Pure Food and Wine on Irving Place, on an unseasonably warm February evening. My friend, @bocartist and I sat down and as I turned to my left I saw a woman who would change my life. Entirely.”

Hilaria, speaking to the New York Times, said that Baldwin had a great opening line. “I was standing near the door with my friends when he walked up and took my hand and said, ‘I must know you’,” she recalled. “You must know me?’,” she replied, after which “he gave me his card,” she said.

Thereafter, they had what Baldwin has called, “a whirlwind romance”.

They tied the knot on June 29, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York City.

They say you can’t put a price on happiness, but some think differently. Royal weddings are known to be lavish and larger-than-life.

Over the decades, royals across the world have spared no expense to make sure their big day was picture perfect. Here are some of the most expensive royal weddings that have dazzled crowds over the years.

Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah and Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini

The Sultan of Brunei’s daughter Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah married non-royal Pengiran Haji back in 2012. The pair wed at the monarch’s 1 700-room palace, and their guest list included 3000 people, which probably greatly contributed to the $20 million cost (R338 718 000) of their big day.

Prince Felipe and Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano

Spanish Crown Prince married journalist Letizia Ortiz in 2004, before they became King and Queen. The couple had over 1200 guests witness their big day, and was the first Spanish royal wedding in almost a century so they had to do it big.

The bride wore a stunning Manuel Pertegaz gown with gold details and a 14-foot (4.27 metre) train. The wedding reception featured a 7-foot (2.13 metre) high cake and over 1000 bottles of champagne. The government and the Royal House shared the estimated bill of between $25-30 million (R423 397 500 – R508 077 0000).

    Prince Harry and Megan Markle
The fairytale 2018 wedding had a pretty frightening bill at the end of it. The wedding is estimated to have cost about $45 million (R762 115 500), of which $30 million alone was dropped on security to keep the Royal family safe during the day.

Interestingly, the royals paid for the majority of the wedding themselves instead of having the state foot the bill. “As was the case with the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Royal Family will pay for the core aspects of the wedding, such as the church service, the associated music, flowers, decorations, and the reception afterwards,” read a statement from the Royal Family.

Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock Wedding

Many tuned in to witness South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock become royalty when she said ‘I do’ to Monaco’s Prince Albert II in 2011. The wedding festivities lasted three days.

Wittstock’s Giorgio Armani wedding gown was made of silk, embellished with pearls and 40 000 swarovski crystals. The 450 guest wedding cost the Crown about $65 million (R1 100 833 500).

    Princess Diana and Prince Charles

The marriage of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles was considered the wedding of the century, and of course it had the price tag to match.

Being such high-profile figures, the royal family shelled out an estimated $600 000 on security and crowd control alone. Princess Diana’s dress cost around $13,000. All together, the wedding is believed to have cost the modern day equivalent of $70 million (R1 185 513 000).

Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Princess Salama

The prince and Princess of Abu Dhabi hold the record for the most expensive modern royal wedding. They tied the knot back in 1981 in a 20 000 seat stadium they had specially built to accommodate the week-long wedding celebrations. The royals dropped a casual $100 000 (R1 693 590 000) on their big day, of which very few public photos exist.

After having most of their lives in the spotlight, it’s understandable that some celebrities would choose to keep an intimate occasion like their wedding a secret. Although it’s frustrating for us, their fans, because we want to know all the details, not having paparazzi around makes for a much calmer atmosphere on the big day.

Here are just some celebrity couples who kept their nuptials hush-hush.

    Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz

Despite being possibly the most famous and beloved couple (except for that short moment where Jay was hated by the Beyhive after Lemonade was released), these two have always been very private and not showy about their relationship. The two got married in a secret ceremony in New York in 2008, with footage only being released slowly over the years since then (including in the above mentioned visual album).

Besides the fact that they were married in 2012 and in South Carolina, there is little information on the marriage of possibly the two most beautiful people currently married in Hollywood. This might be disappointing but at least we get to see their pranks and hear these two lovebirds gush about each other in interviews.
