Planning a wedding is expensive, not to mention the honeymoon and the new life you’ll build together afterward. It’s easily understandable why many couples would prefer a cash gift instead of a physical gift on their wedding day.

It can sometimes feel a bit classless to ask for money, but it doesn’t need to be. However, it’s important to do it the right way to avoid offending some older family members or putting pressure on anyone to contribute more than they were originally willing to spend on a gift.

Here are some tips to get that big tip at the end of your big day:

Don’t ask for money on your wedding invitation

The wedding invitation is to introduce your upcoming union and is all about the good vibes. Adding a clause that you’re expecting cash from your guests can be construed a bit tasteless. Instead, set up a wedding website where you can include a link to a cash registry or banking details of an account set up specifically for the cash gifts.

Let your guests know how you plan to spend the money

While you don’t owe anyone an explanation, giving your guests a general idea of how you plan to spend the money might make them more willing to contribute. For example, if it’s a honeymoon fund for a dream vacation or house renovations fund, your guests will know that their money is going toward something important.

It could also be a good idea to set up a specific target amount, with a live tracker displaying how close you are to your goal. Some might feel even more willing to contribute if they know you are closer to reaching your dream.

    Use a cash registry

If you feel awkward asking for money outright, you can easily direct your guests to your cash registry on your wedding website. There are sites that run it all for you, so all you need to do is fill in the details and add the link, and voilà. Try out South African sites like Wrapistry or Gift Tree.

Set up cash boxes at your reception

Some people don’t trust online banking or are simply not technologically-savvy. Give your older guests an in-person option by setting up a cash donation box at your reception. You’ll need your wedding planner or a minder to keep an eye over the box throughout the evening to make sure the money stays safe.

Bachelorette parties are traditionally all about painting the town red and going wild in celebration of your last night as an unmarried woman. While clubbing is fun, it’s not for everyone.

Brides who aren’t into the nightclub and stripper scene don’t need to feel any pressure to conform to tradition. Many modern brides are opting for alternative activities where they can enjoy their time with their best friends in a less chaotic way that is less likely to end with a hangover and regrets.

If you’re the artsy type, there are a host of creative activities to spend your time doing. Here are a few of our favourites.

    Painting party

Channel your inner artist with a painting party! You can easily DIY this by purchasing canvases, brushes, and paints for all your guests. Set the canvases up against mini easels, and arrange them in a circular fashion around the specific item being painted. To add a raunchy spin, you can have a nude model to pose for the art.

Turn it into a painting and pinot party with a selection of your favourite wines to get the creative juices flowing. We promise a pretty hilarious outcome.

    Dance Class

Whether you have two left feet or you’re footloose, you can’t deny that dancing is a great way to loosen up and get the laughs going.

Gather your best girls and head out to a dance class to show off your moves. Any dance style would work, although those wanting to be daring should definitely try a pole dancing class. You could make it even more fun by dressing up in matching costumes and performing a sassy routine.

    Cooking class

Who doesn’t love good food? Hire a professional chef or visit a cooking school to learn some new dishes with your best friends. You’ll work in teams to prepare starters, mains, and desserts, and in the end, you can have a sit-down dinner party to feast on your creations.

    Host a photoshoot

You’ll (hopefully) want to remember your bachelorette for the rest of your life, so why not have it professionally immortalised? Hire a professional photographer to take some glamour shots of you and your girls looking your best. You can theme the shoot or have multiple locations, and of course, all the outfit changes.

In 20 years, you’ll look back at all those images and fondly remember your single days.

Wedding favours are a sweet way to show your guests your appreciation for sharing in your special day. While not essential, it is a nice touch to give your guests an exciting send-off.

Anyone who has planned a wedding before knows how expensive it can be. Things add up quickly and unexpected costs can crop up at any minute, so it’s best to be financially savvy where you can be.

If you’re working with a tight budget, fear not. There are tons of affordable wedding favour options to incorporate into your big day. Some of them are easily DIYable, which means you save on labour too.

From seedlings to tea, hangover kits made of mini bottles of water and painkillers, to DIY tic tac toe, you can make a wedding favour out of pretty much any common household item.

A British couple now shares a rather unusual surname. After tying the knot in a pre-second lockdown wedding, the pair now go by Mr and Mrs White-Christmas.

Tilly Christmas and Kieran White met as children and got married on Tuesday [November 3] at the Roman Baths in Bath, just before England began its second lockdown.

Christmas already has a unique surname and decided to keep it after marriage. However, combining her surname with her husband’s surname was an offer she could not refuse.

“I wanted to keep the name going. It just so happens the man I am marrying has the perfect surname to go with it,” she told the BBC.

The pair first realised their surnames came together as the festive White-Christmas at their secondary school prom when their friend uploaded pictures to social media using #WhiteChristmas.

Nevada voters have overturned an 18-year old amendment and became the first American state to officially remove a ban on same-sex marriage from its state constitution.

Despite the Supreme Court ruling same-sex marriage legal in every state across the country in 2015, an inactive ban from a 2002 amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman remained. Nevada was one of 30 states to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

During Tuesday’s [November 3] election, state residents voted in support of the “Marriage Regardless of Gender Amendment” to have the inactive ban removed from the constitution. According to Nevada secretary of state, about 62% were in favour while 38% of residents voted against the amendment. Now, marriage will be defined as between couples, regardless of gender, although religious organisations and clergypersons will still retain the right to refuse to solemnise a marriage.

“This overwhelming majority should be a reminder that LGBTQ equality is not just the right thing to do, it is exactly what Nevadans want,” said Briana Escamilla, Human Rights Campaign’s Nevada director.

“It’s the fix we need to make here,” André Wade, head of Silver State Equality, told KTNV-TV. “We have discriminatory language in the constitution, and we need to take it out. We know Nevadans value equality, and we want our constitution to mirror that.”

Concerns of a conservative majority on the Supreme Court have increased following the appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Removing the same-sex ban thus acts as a way for residents to offer some form of protection for same-sex couples, regardless of any future federal moves in the Supreme Court.

Tradition dictates that only the bride can wear white on her big day. Well, it’s 2020 and rules are meant to be broken!

The tradition of brides wearing white began with Queen Victoria back in 1840, and has been an accepted and essential part of weddings ever since. However, many brides are skipping tradition and creating memorable weddings following their own tastes on desires. Some opt to not even wear white.

Why not take it one step further and have your bridal party dress in white too?  The key to pulling off this trend is contrast. Even though everyone is wearing white, guests should immediately be able to tell who the bride is. Keep enough difference between your dress and your bridesmaid dresses so that the roles are clear.

Here are some beautiful bridal parties wearing white and making a statement.

Talk about an out-of-this-world proposal! This couple got engaged while on a ZERO-G space simulation flight.

Xavier Andrews popped the question to his girlfriend Shanté Cosme aboard the ZERO-G in a modified Boeing 727-200, a commercial way to experience what it’s like to be in space without actually going there.

Speaking to Brides, Andres explained that he wanted to do something special for the proposal.

“We’re an adventurous couple,” he said“We’ve been to 12 countries together and have done everything from exploring the caves of Railay Beach, Thailand to snowmobiling the Vatnajökull glaciers of Iceland—so it felt right.”

The incredible images, captured by photographer Steve Boxall, shows the couple floating as if on Cloud 9 as the proposal takes place.

Cosme was suspicious of her partner and had already sussed out that a proposal was near.

“When we got to the Blade lounge in NYC and I realized we’d be taking a helicopter to the airport, I thought, ‘This would be a really cool way to propose,’” she told Brides. “People kept pulling him aside and he assured me he was just handling the bill, but I knew something was up.”

While enjoying the experience, Andrews pulled out the ring, which was fastened to him by string to keep it from floating away.

Cosme immediately burst into tears at the sight of the ring and accepted the proposal before Andrews even officially asked.

While many brides want to be different on their special day, your hair is not something you need to be unique.

There is no need to go crazy with a wedding hairstyle. In 20 years time, you don’t want to look back at your wedding pictures and hate your hairstyle. Sometimes, a classic look is best.

Soft flowing waves or a chic chignon are popular for a reason. They are eternally glamorous styles that have been in fashion for decades.

Whether you want your hair up or down, a simple hairstyle can quickly be elevated by adding a fun hair accessory. From a flower crown to jewel-encrusted clips, choose a look that goes with the overall vibe you have in mind. This way, you have the classic look with a little something for added personality.

Take some inspiration from these brides.
