The first time your loved ones see you in a wedding dress is always something special. One passionate kindergarten teacher, Kelsey Moeller, wanted to share the moment with her class at school.

“The kids got to see me in my dress before anyone else, including John or my dad. I have a very strong bond with my class and I absolutely love going to school,” she said to The Metro.

“When the kids saw me some of them didn’t know where to look and were all embarrassed, it was real cute.”

The children even painted Moeller a ‘wedding dress’ as a gift with all their names on.

“I’ve photographed first looks more times than I can count…….but this one! This one is special!” the photographer of Flying Pig Photography said on Instagram.

Take a look at how it all went down, and the adorable look on the kids’ faces when they see their teacher in her dress:

I’ve photographed first looks more times than I can count…….but this one! This one is special! Kelsey teaches kindergarten at Hugh Goodwin Elementary. And what a lucky class they are! They were the very first to see her in her dress….before dad, before her groom. And let me tell you, these sweet kiddos came to school dressed for the part, with a special surprise of their own. You see, Kelsey’s mom, Jerri Beth Smith, was also a teacher in the El Dorado School District. She substitutes for her daughter when she’s out of the classroom. During a couple of those days, the children hand-painted a beautiful dress for their teacher. And they topped it off by throwing her a bridal shower after the reveal. Miss Smith insists none of the children gave away her surprise, and I believe it. These children were the most well-behaved and sweet children – even in an exciting time for them. These photos are even more special now. Less than two weeks after I photographed this sweet kindergarten class, school was suspended due to Covid-19. I know it was meant to be for all of these kiddos to share in the wedding of their teacher, even if it wasn’t possible for everyone to come to the ceremony! Kelsey and her mom created a special table at the wedding to honor her class – a banner of one of these special images, a display of the dress and coloring sheets made from a group photo of them all. I know she loves them as much as they love her <3 As of yesterday evening, it’s……… Goodbye, Miss Smith and Hello, Mrs. Moeller! But changing her name will never dull the memory created on this day. Memories with Miss Smith/Mrs. Moeller will always have a special place in their heart, because she shared hers with them <3 Wedding Dress | She Said Yes in the Heights Engagement Ring | Taylor Made Design & Jewelry Hair & Makeup | Karen Millican Surprise Crew | Mom, Friends and Staff of Hugh Goodwin Elementary School

The Hollywood marriages of old times seem to hold unparalleled nostalgia and romance, a far cry from the trivial pursuits of attention modern reality TV relationships portray.

The year is 1944. He, an iconic actor and Broadway star. She, a 19-year old model and aspiring actress. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall met on the set of To Have and Have Not. Like all notable Hollywood romances, their relationship was a scandalous affair.

Bogart was married to his third wife, actress Mayo Methot, at the time (not to mention being 25 years Bacall’s senior). But there was no stopping the attraction between them. In her book Be Myself, Bacall wrote about the first time he came to her trailer one night after filming. “Suddenly he leaned over, put his hand under my chin, and kissed me. It was impulsive—he was a bit shy—no lunging wolf tactics. He took a worn package of matches out of his pocket and asked me to put my phone number on the back. I did,” she writes.

Soon after, Bogart divorced his wife. The star-crossed lovers tied the knot on May 21, 1945 at a ceremony on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield’s farm in Ohio.

They had two children together, staying married until Bogart’s death in 1957. “No one has ever written a romance better than we lived,” Bacall wrote in her memoir.

Home designers Chip and Joanna Gaines, famous for their reality TV series Fixer Upper, recently celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary.

Posting a sweet throwback on his Instagram, Chip Gaines wrote “Juuuust married! Everything about you has made everything about me better. And 17 years later I’m still learning from and loving on the most incredible woman in the world. After all these years Joanna Lea Stevens, you really are the girl of my dreams.. Happy 17th sweet girl. I love you?”

The two’s love story is adorable. Joanna’s father owned a car repair shop, where Joanna also worked. Chip came in one day to have his car fixed, and saw a picture of the then 23-year-old Joanna hanging on the wall, but Joanna was not there. “I knew I’d marry her one day just by the picture on the wall,” Chip told Popsugar.

The love-struck man kept returning to the shop with excuses about his car, actually just hoping to see Joanna in the flesh. When he finally did get to meet her, he had no doubt about his first instincts, and asked her out. The rest is history! They now have four children together.

    Congrats to the lovely couple!

South Africa’s favourite sport has ground to a halt, so it seems our rugby players are using this time for the more important things in life.

Springbok and Lions fullback Andries Coetzee recently wed his fiancée, Mart.

The two planned a large, lavish ceremony (as celebs do) for April 25, but the celebrations have been put on hold until 2021. In the meantime, the two got married at the Magistrate’s office.

“Even though it wasn’t the big white wedding as planned (… yet, and believe me that day WILL come somewhere in 2021) the feeling of being married to my best friend and the love of my life exceeds all my expectations,” the new Mrs Coetzee said on Instagram.

“Introducing Mr and Mrs Coetzee! Congratulations to the newlyweds ❤” the Lions Rugby Union said on their Instagram with the same picture.

Mart could luckily still have her bridal shower at La Vie Lente Bistro Venue in February earlier this year. “My ? is full and overflowing with love and appreciation. I am SO spoilt, grateful and sincerely HAPPY!!! #kitchen_tea ” she said on Instagram.

Some believe you make your own luck, others hold fast to age-old traditions and superstitions. We’re not here to judge. In fact, many cultures swear by certain dates and times as being good for marriages, while naming other months as a wedding date will undoubtedly extract a gasp from some.

An old rhyme would guide many in choosing their wedding month through the years (although it does seem to revolve around the weather of the northern hemisphere, so you might want to take it with a pinch of salt). We take a look at some of the months that will see you have a long and happy marriage, and which months to steer clear of.

    When to say ‘I do’:

February: “Married in February’s sleepy weather, Life you’ll tread in tune together.”

June: “Married in month of roses – June – Life will be one long honeymoon.”

July: “Married in July, with flowers ablaze, Bitter-sweet mem’ries in after days.”

August: “Married in August’s heat and drowse, Lover and friend in your chosen spouse.”

September: “Married in September’s golden glow, Smooth and serene your life will go.”

November: “Married in veils of November mist, Fortune your wedding-ring has kissed.”

December: “Married in days of December cheer, Love’s star shines brighter from year to year.”

    When to say ‘I don’t’

January: “Married in January’s hoar and rime, Widowed you’ll be before your prime.”

March: “Married when March winds shrill and roar, Your home will lie on a distant shore.”

April: “Married ‘neath April’s changeful skies, A chequered path before you lies.”

October: “Married when leaves in October thin, Toil and hardships for you begin.”

The rhyme and its wisdoms sourced from Chest of Books.

Back in 2002, Anne McGowan was on her way to her mountaintop wedding in Arizona. But having to reroute to their spot because of wildfires, the couple realised they would have to hike up a mountain to get there.

“I wanted to get married on a vista because we rock climb and hike a lot so that was sort of our ideal wedding. The night before the wedding, the photographer called us and said there were fires and that they had to close off the access to where we were going to be married,” McGowan told AZ Family.

“I get out of the car, and we realized we were at a bottom of a mountain instead of like, on the top. I had wedding shoes on and a dress because initially, we were going to pull up into a parking lot and jump out and have the ceremony there. So we’re just looking up like, how are we going to get up this mountain? In tuxedos and sandals and a wedding dress?”

Lucky for her, a group of hikers passed them and a kindhearted lady offered the bride her hiking boots. She took the boots and was able to hike safely to the spot.

Now, 18 years later, McGowan decided to try and find the heroic hiker who saved her on her wedding day. On the day of her 18th wedding anniversary, she posted a picture taken of them on Facebook and it quickly went viral. Rhonda Nelson, the one and only hiker, eventually saw the photo, and contacted the bride!

Nelson explained the act of kindness: “It’s a hiking creed almost; you do good things for other people on the trail. What really moved me was that Anne really wanted to reach out and say thank you and that also, this meant so much to her,” Nelson said to AZ Family.

The two arranged a Zoom meeting to say hi, and plan to stay in touch.
