2020 has been anything but conventional, but one thing that endured was the power of love. Despite all the changes this year threw at us, many were determined to tie the knot with that special someone.

While they were not to the grand standard we are used to, there were many celebrity couples who tied the knot in 2020. Some were lucky enough to walk down the aisle before the pandemic broke out, while others restructured to celebrate in a more low-key and safe way.

Here are a few of our favourite celebrity weddings for 2020:

Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel Peters

Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel Peters kicked off the year with a celebrity wedding to note. From their pre-wedding ‘Welcome to Africa’ cocktail dinner in the Cape winelands to their rehearsal dinner, no expense was spared. The couple’s weekend events are all planned by celebrity planner Zavion Khotze.

The pair married at the La Paris Estate in Franschhoek on January 20, 2020. South African celebrity wedding planner Zavion Khotze organised the day. The former Miss Universe wore an off-the-shoulder cowl-neck dress by Davids Bridal and Tim wore a tuxedo by Antar Levar.

According to PEOPLE, their ceremony lasted 30 minutes and was attended by 260 guests. The couple wrote their own vows.

The wedding blended South African and American wedding traditions, because their cultures are very important to the couple.

According to reports, the bride walked down the aisle with her beloved pet pooch Billie by her side. As it rained on the day, the ceremony was moved from the lawn area to a covered terrace.

It was a whirlwind romance for the pair. After only two months of dating, they tied the knot in a traditional wedding. Their white wedding was held soon after and appeared on the December 2001 cover of Drum.

In a story that is wildly millennial, Hollywood “it”-couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra began their love story thanks to a Twitter DM.

Since then, they’ve had a whirlwind romance that saw them date, get engaged and marry in quick succession. This beautiful couple have been married for two years, but have been giving us couple goals for even longer. Here’s how they stole each other’s hearts.

Back in 2016, the Jonas brother slid into actress Priyanka Chopra’s Twitter DM’s with a casual, “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet,” the singer told Vogue.

Not one to mince words, Chopra responded with, “My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me.”

For about a year, the pair shared friendly yet flirtatious conversations over text. They finally met in person at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar party in February. Jonas was so bowled over by Priyanka’s look that he went down on one knee and loudly proclaimed, “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?”

The pair continued to hang out, and even attended the Met Gala together later that year, both wearing Ralph Lauren. At the time, however, Chopra claimed they were just friends and had attended together because they were wearing the same designer.

Nearly a year after that fateful DM, the pair went on their first official date in May 2018. They went to see Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a fast romance for the pair from this moment. In June, Chopra was Jonas’s plus-one to his cousin’s wedding, and the couple went Instagram official on June 22.

Before the dust settled on their relationship announcement, the pair were back with even bigger news: In July, they got engaged. Jonas had proposed the day after Chopra’s 36th birthday while on holiday in Crete.

The pair announced their engagement in August while on a trip in Mumbai, in which their families met for the first time.

Chopra’s engagement ring was designed by Tiffany’s, a childhood dream of hers. Going along with the theme, she hosted her bridal shower at the iconic Tiffany’s Blue Box Café in New York. She wore a strapless white Marchesa gown and A-list stars like Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Ripa were on hand to celebrate with her.

The pair’s elaborate wedding weekend kicked off on December 1, 2018. Their nuptials were done in spectacular fashion with a three-day wedding blending Hindu and Christian traditions.

With wedding celebrations over, the pair went on a proper honeymoon to the Caribbean, a trip entirely planned by the singer.

Just when we thought the festivities were over, the pair once again celebrated their nuptials. They hosted an American-based reception at Nellie’s Southern Kitchen in North Carolina, Jonas’s family restaurant, on January 27, 2019.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we can all actually manage going a little smaller and a little closer to home. These celebrities have shown us how a wedding doesn’t have to be lavish to be beautiful or special.

These “minimonies” or micro-weddings had all the love, even with a smaller ceremony.

Royal weddings are usually significant and grand affairs. Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor. This was a much more toned-down version than they had planned but they pulled it off perfectly.

Princess Beatrice did get the fan fare, as many fawned over her beautiful dress which was an updated loan from her grandmother.

One of Hollywood’s most-loved celebrity couples has a pretty sweet love story. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have been married for a decade, and are a powerhouse team.

The pair met in 2008, and it was love at first sight. Blunt was out for dinner with a friend when Krasinski walked into the same restaurant.

“We were discussing how much I was enjoying being single. And then [my friend] goes, ‘Oh, my God, there’s my friend John.’ And that was it,” Blunt told People TV.

“It was one of those things where I wasn’t really looking for a relationship and I was thinking I’m going to take my time in LA,” Krasinski told Ellen Degeneres. “Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.'”

In an interview with the Today show, Krasinski credited the hit NBC show The Office for connecting him with his wife. Prior to landing his iconic role as Jim Halpert in the series, the actor was contemplating quitting acting.

“It’s a little bit of an existential crisis after a while because I wouldn’t have met my wife, I wouldn’t have been out in LA. Truly, when I say the show has given me everything, it’s given me everything,” he said.

The pair had an unusual first date. Wanting to do something different, Krasinski decided to take Blunt to a shooting range.

“I decided, ‘I’m gonna really hit the gas and bring her to a gun range.’ I think that I was so sure that I would never end up with her… that I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna blow it right away and then that way you don’t feel bad.,” he recalled in an interview with Conan O’ Brien in 2012.

That date turned out to be incredibly successful. Within 10 months the pair were engaged. They tied the knot in Como, Italy a year later in July 2010. Blunt wore a custom cream chiffon Marchesa gown for the festivities. George Clooney was one of their guests.

In February 2014 the pair welcomed their first child, a daughter named Hazel. She got a sibling in 2016 when daughter Violet was born.

The actors decided to work together for the very first time in 2018 and began work on the critically-acclaimed horror film A Quiet Place. The film was directed by Krasinski, while both starred in it. Working together brought them even closer.

“I’ve always been the biggest fan of her, but not until you’re in the room when she does what she does do you know why she’s so phenomenal,” Krasinski said during an interview on The Tonight Show. “She’s unbelievable. The most talented, powerful … kindest person. She makes everyone around her better. So honestly, that was my experience.”

In July of 2020, the pair celebrated a decade of marriage. We can’t wait to see what this incredible couple does next.
