While their marriage was not a fairytale, one of the most iconic weddings to date is that of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. From those puffy sleeves to that trailing train, Princess Diana made many memorable fashion moments with her bridal attire, influencing brides for decades to come.

In 1981, Lady Diana Spencer said “I do” to Prince Charles, making her a princess, both officially and in people hearts. The shoes she wore to walk down the aisle had a surpringly sweet hidden meaning.

For her big day, Princess Diana opted to wear flats. Celebrity accessories designer Clive Shilton explains that she did this so that she would not appear taller than her future husband, as they were the exact same height.

‘Her main concern was that she wouldn’t appear taller than Prince Charles, and because she was very tall – 5ft 10in – the shoes would have to have a low heel.’

The shoes were adorned with 500 sequins, over 100 seed pearls, satin and lace. The suede arches featured a sweet, romantic detail painted on them: the letters ‘C’ for Charles and ‘D’ for Diana, with a heart between them.

Other royals must have taken inspiration from Princess Diana since then. Megan Markle had fabric from the dress she wore on her first date with Prince Harry sewn onto her wedding gown, and her veil was embroidered with 53 flour and fauna to represent the Commonwealth countries. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress sleeves featuring floral embroidery representing the national emblems of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriquez, who previously said they were planning out various versions of their wedding, have decided to indefinitely postpone their big day.

The pair, who got engaged last year in March, are one of many couples who have had their wedding plans fail as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. They had apparently planned “the wedding of their dreams”, but of course, to ensure that people stay safe and follow social distancing rules, they have no choice but to relook their plans.

An insider told E! News that the wedding will not go on as planned. “They have been struggling for weeks over this decision, but with no return to normalcy in the near future, the couple felt postponing the wedding was the safest and smartest choice,” they said.

According to this insider, all guests have been notified that the wedding will no longer be taking place in late summer, as they expected.

The source also said that JLo and ARod had planned to say their “I-do’s” in Italy, and are hoping that they can eventually follow through with their dream wedding. They are already thinking of new dates, however, they do not see the nuptials taking place any time in the near future.

She also added the hashtag, #happytobestuckwith you. This means that the happy couple are spending their anniversary self-isolating, like many others – including Prince William and Kate Middleton – have done.

Of course, Le Gallo shared his sentiments of love and affection too. He posted a black and white image of Adams in her wedding dress. “It’s been 5yrs today that I’ve been blessed to be married to my best friend,” he said.

She’s the Queen B, he’s a rap legend. Together they make one of the most powerful pairs in celebrity history.

Over the last 20 years, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have seen it all. From the highs of career success and babies to the lows of infidelity, here’s a look into this private couple’s relationship.

    1999-2000: The Bey-ginning

Bey and Jay met sometime in 1999-2000, when Beyoncé was only 18 years old and Jay 12 years her senior. They began dating over a year later. “We were friends first for a year and a half before we went on any dates,” she told Oprah Winfrey in an interview. “We were on the phone for a year and a half, and that foundation is so important for a relationship. Just to have someone who you just like is so important, and someone [who] is honest.”

    2004-2008: Baby, it’s you

The pair began creating music together, first releasing “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” then “Crazy in Love”, before their relationship was public. They finally confirm rumours by making their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2004 MTV VMAs in Miami.

Throughout the years, the pair continue to collaborate on more music. However, they remain tight-lipped on their relationship. In 2018, the pair secretly wed in a lowkey ceremony at the rapper’s New York penthouse. Instead of exchanging rings, they got matching IV tattoos on their wedding fingers.

    2010-2013: Highs and lows

Unfortunately, the pair suffered heartbreak when Beyoncé had a miscarriage in 2010. The singer opened up about the ordeal in her 2013 ‘Life Is But A Dream’ documentary.

“About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life. Being pregnant was very much like falling in love. You are so open. You are so overjoyed. There’s no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you, so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone…I picked out names… I envisioned what my child would look like… I was feeling very maternal.. I flew back to New York to get my check up – and no heartbeat.”

In 2011 Beyoncé stunned the world when she announced her pregnancy at the MTV VMAs in L.A. In 2012, they welcomed daughter Blue Ivy Carter to the world.

    2014: Elevatorgate

The couple had major drama with the slap heard around the world. After attending the Met Gala together, a video captured Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles having a heated argument in an elevator, while Beyoncé watched on the side. Solange then attacked Jay-Z. Many speculate that the argument was about Jay-Z’s alleged infidelity.

While they never spoke about the reason for the altercation, the trio addressed the video in a joint statement.

“There has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family,” read the statement.

    2016: Lemons into Lemonade

In her sixth studio album, Lemonade, Beyoncé explored themes of infidelity and forgiveness, prompting many to believe it was about her husband’s betrayal. The track list featured songs like “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, “Hold Up” and “Sorry”, taking the listener through stages of grief, anger and denial.

    2017: The twins

Beyoncé announces that she is pregnant with twins in an iconic Instagram picture that quickly became the most liked image.

“We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. – The Carters”, they captioned the image.

Beyoncé gave birth to twins Rumi and Sir in June later that same year.

In the same year, Jay-Z released his album 4:44, in which he addresses cheating on Beyoncé in the past.

In an interview with T Magazine, he opened up about the betrayal.

“You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself,” he said. “So, you know, most people don’t want to do that. You don’t want to look inside yourself. And so you walk away.”

    2018: Everything is Love

The couple seem to have worked through their issues and have come out stronger than ever. In 2018, they release their joint album Everything is Love in celebration of the triumphs and failures they’ve experienced, both together and personally.

Newlyweds Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell are honeymooning at home amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, their home is a bit different to the usual one, as they are staying at the Australia Zoo.

The pair have been isolating in Australia Zoo with Irwin’s family to take care of the animals throughout the pandemic. After COVID-19 forced their plans to change, they said their I dos at the zoo in a last minute ceremony in March and are now honeymooning there too.

She captioned the image, “Our honeymoon may not have turned out as we’d planned but we’re grateful to be spending time with our beautiful animals @AustraliaZoo. Things are incredibly busy here while we’re temporarily not open. We’re all working together to make sure our animal family is happy. ??”

Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary yesterday, April 29. The pair commemorated this special day in quarantine at their Anmer Hall Home with their family, due to restrictions in place on account of COVID-19.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thanked people for their kindness and well-wishes on their anniversary via Instagram. The post was a throwback to their wedding ceremony on April 29, 2011. In the photo we see the newlyweds in the doorway of Westminster Abbey, after they had just exchanged their vows.

“Nine years ago today – thank you for all your lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding anniversary!” read the caption.

Of course, more congratulatory messages came pouring in underneath the post, with a comment from Princess Eugenie making an appearance too.

People reported that the royal couple spent the day video-calling their family and having quality time with their children.

In celebration of their anniversary, The Royal Family Channel on YouTube also posted a video.

    Image: Instagram

A wedding is said to be the happiest day of a person’s life. If that person is royal, however, there are a few extra complications.

The royal world has never been short of scandal and drama, even on wedding days. Here are a few wild moments from the years:

Louis XVI didn’t attend his own wedding:

Louis XVI was not happy that he had to marry Marie Antoinette, both of whom were in their mid-teens at the time.  So much so that he didn’t even show up to the wedding! Their wedding took place by proxy in Vienna, and Marie’s older brother Ferdinand had to stand in as the groom at the altar. The pair met for the first time weeks after their wedding when she arrived in Versailles.

Their marriage was not an easy one. Seven years passed before they consummated the marriage, making them the laughing stock of the kingdom.

Henry VIII created a new church so he could divorce his wife
The Church of England was founded with a less-than-holy origin story. King Henry VIII wanted to end his marriage to Catherine of Aragon after their union failed to produce a son and he became interested in one of his wife’s ladies-in-waiting, Anne Boleyn. However, the Catholic Church does not allow divorce. King Henry VIII thus split from the church, built a new one and made himself the Supreme Head of the Church of England.
King Edward VIII abdicated the throne for love
Britain’s Edward VIII became King in 1936 after his father died. However, he was already in love with an ‘unsuitable’ woman: Wallis Warfield Simpson. Simpson was already married, had previously been divorced and was -gasp- American.
She got divorced but the royal family still could not accept her as an appropriate partner for the King. However, his love for Simpson proved too strong.  King Edward abdicated later that same year to be with Simpson, thus causing his descendants to lose their place in line for the throne too.
The pair married in June 1937 but were shunned from the royal family for decades after.
The Queen did not attend Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding ceremony

Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship, which continued through his marriage to Princess Diana, was already a massive scandal on its own. Another huge scandal: his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, did not attend their wedding.

The Queen insists that her absence was a sign of her prioritizing her role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England over any motherly duties. However, the Queen and Prince Phillip did not approve of Camilla when she first began dating their son, and many reports suggest that disdain continued over the years, adding fuel to the fire.

Sarah Ferguson wasn’t invited to Will and Kate’s wedding
Prince William did not extend an invitation for his highly anticipated wedding to his aunt, Sarah Ferguson.
“It was so difficult because I wanted to be there with my girls and to be getting them dressed and to go as a family,” Ferguson told Oprah. “And also it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me.”
Princess Stéphanie of Monaco married her bodyguard
Princess Stéphanie of Monaco fell in love with Daniel Ducruet in 1988. Only problem? He was her bodyguard. The two carried on a relationship in secret, even having two children out of wedlock before marrying in 1995.
However, the pair split a year later after Ducruet was caught on tape having an affair, causing yet another scandal for the family.
Megan Markle only had one family member attend her wedding
Megan Markle’s family has received much coverage ever since her relationship with Prince Harry became public. Many family members went out against her to speak to the press, and created great scandal.
Markle’s father was meant to walk her down the aisle but days before the big day, he was caught staging paparazzi photoshoots to garner positive press about him. As a result, Markle had only one family member by her side for her big day: her mother. Doria Raglan stood proudly as she watched her daughter say ‘I do’.
The Prince of Hanover’s dad skips his wedding

Prince Ernst August married long term girlfriend, Russian designer Ekaterina Malysheva in 2017 without his father, Ernst August Sr., in attendance. In fact, the father did not approve of the nuptials at all.

“The decision was not easy for me because it concerns my son,” August Sr. said to a German newspaper. “But I am constrained to preserve the interests of the House of Hanover and the property, including cultural property, which has been its property for centuries.”
The Prince refused to return an estimated $100 million worth of property he’d been given a decade earlier, causing his father to anger and skip the wedding.

A gracious groom knows that the attention is not only on him. He has to share it with his glowing bride, of course! However, would the groom be happy to share more of the spotlight with his famous groomsman?

Yes, apparently. At least in the instances we’ve seen, grooms are quite happy to share their special day with their famous friends! If you’re struggling to believe it, then we’re here to ensure you’re convinced.

Here are some of our favourite famous groomsmen:

    David and Brooklyn Beckham

The father-son pair are perfect for the role of groomsmen. Their fun and positive personalities surely brought a lightness to Victorica’s brother Christian Adams and his partner Emma Strafford’s wedding in 2017.

    Joe and Kevin Jonas

While all three brothers are famous (for the same thing), Nick ensured his brothers Joe and Kevin (and Frankie) were by his side on his big day when he married actress Priyanka Chopra. Their nuptials included a Christian ceremony and a Hindu ceremony.

    Prince Harry and Prince William

Each brother played the role of groomsman when the other got married. The Duke of Cambridge provided the utmost support for Prince Harry on his royal wedding day in 2018. Harry took on the same role 7 years earlier, when Prince William wed Kate Middleton.

    Ed Westwick

Best known for his role as Chuck Bass, from the popular teen drama Gossip Girl, Ed Westwick looked dapper as he stood as a groomsman at his friends wedding in 2016.

    Derek Hough

Professional dancer popular for Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) was the best man for his friend, Mark Ballas who also appears on DWTS. He joined a fairly large group of groomsman at the 2016 wedding.

    Nsync

When Nysnc member Chris Kirkpatrick said his “I do’s” in 2013, his band members (Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and JC Chasez) stood by his side, despite the fact that the boyband was no longer going. The group looked happy as ever being by the grooms side.
