Actress Dineo and rapper Zothile (Solo) Langa are constantly serving us ‘couple goals’. The pair met many moons ago but were not public about their romance until four years into the relationship. They have been married for over a year but have been together for 8 years.

Here’s how this famed South African couple fell in love.

Dineo met Solo eight years ago through a mutual friend, Leroy. He had set them up to a blind date anaware to them, but luckily it was love at first sight. Solo asked for her phone number and texted her on the same day. They later went out for dinner that very same day and have been together since.

On their Showmax wedding series, Kwakuhle kwethu, Dineo admitted to having a huge crush on him and could not wait longer than five minutes to text him back.

Solo took to social media to explain how he proposed to Dineo. They were on a holiday in Mozambique in January 2019 and he has already planned to propose. He explained how a person might think it would be easy to propose to their best friend, but it was nerve-wracking for him.

The couple tied the knot on May 11, 2019 at the Kitchen L’antico Giardiono in Johannesburg. They had a secret ceremony where they changed outfits twice, and guests could only post pictures of themselves and not the wedding itself. They later gave us the Kwakuhle kwethu series showcasing their wedding.

The couple share a YouTube channel where they share an inside look into their personal life. On the channel they touched on their spiritual journey as these two lovebirds are trained, traditional healers.

They say that friendship and spirituality make them who they are. From the day they met, their conversations were easy and endless and they continue building on that.

What makes a wedding all the more special is having the perfect drink to cheers with. When it comes to drinks, nothing goes down better than a classic G&T. If you agree; here are a few ways to make a standout gin bar at your wedding.

    Choose your vibe

A lot of a gin bar is the vibe. Decide whether you’re going for a classic high tea look, mid-century modern touch or bohemian and base your gin choices around that.

With your concept in mind choose your setup, whether that be a gin tent, truck, stand or picnic area. While its a gin bar, its also a statement and a decorative piece of your big day so don’t be afraid to add a little something extra to your look.

The look and feel of your gin bar speaks to your personal style and can be customised to the last detail.

    Gins & cocktails

When it comes to choosing the gins, you have to decide whether you are going for the classic G&T offering or whether you’ll serve up specially made cocktails for the day. A large portion of this decision depends on whether you’re outsourcing help for your bar or simply arranging it yourself with a bartender or two to help.

Customised cocktails are a nice touch that can tie into you and your partner’s history but they are extra effort due to additional ingredients needed.

If you’re a purist and like your gin with a classic tonic or soda then opting for G&Ts is perfect for you.

Gin choices are up to taste, more classic unflavoured option will suit a purist palate while more flavoured and coloured gins work well for cocktails. Opting for a few pricey and some more budget options can help ease the pressure on your pocket too.

Local gins are lovely and fall into a price bracket that is easier to budget for.

    Garnish, garnish, garnish

Opinions vary on how much garnish a gin drink should have, but whether you prefer your drink with a good splash of agriculture or a simple prig of thyme; garnish makes a drink.

If you are looking for a way to save on your gin bar, an easy option is growing your own garnish well in advance. Thyme, rosemary, citrus and cucumber, among others, not only make for the perfect garnish options but are also easy to grow with enough foresight.

Match your garnish to your taste, cocktail preference and availability.

    Don’t forget the extras

From ice, to bar tools, bartenders and a fridge to keep things cool; the things you don’t think about first can come back to bite you.

In the end a good gin bar is all about ginspiration, a love for gin and planning. If you put enough time into ensure every box is ticked and all your extra necessities are covered your bar will be a hit and you can have your gin and drink it too.

The Flamingo Project helps make things easier for women diagnosed with breast cancer and receiving treatment in the public health sector. The project was started by Dr Liana Roodt, and is run from Groote Schuur Hospital.

Dr Firzana Araie is a regular anaesthetist for Project Flamingo and decided with her husband Phillip that they wanted to celebrate their union by having donations made in their name instead of creating a wedding registry. Through this, the couple raised R25 000 for Project Flamingo, which is enough to sponsor a full list of patients.

“Thank you so much to the newly married couple of Dr Firzana Araie and Phillip Sterne,” the Flamingo Project said via a Facebook post.

Project Flamingo raises funds to alleviate the waiting period. Thanks to Project Flamingo, the waiting time for surgery is now down to 2-4 weeks at Groote Schuur. Funds raised for the project go towards offering surgeries, paying for theatre time and nursing staff.

When you think “wedding day”, you probably think big. Big excitement, big ceremony, and definitely big bank account.

This couple decided to switch things up, opting for a small, lower-than-usual budget wedding ceremony and saving their money for the honeymoon and a car instead.

Wongalethu and Honey Vakala said this is the best decision they have ever made. “My family had big plans, my mom invited all of her friends, colleagues and some of the community members and even booked the wedding venue. I had to stand up for my wife and show her that the man she is marrying has a backbone. I cancelled all the plans my mother had for my wedding day and she didn’t take it well,” Wongalethu told Drum.

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses, though. It also meant that they could not invite a number of people that they really wanted to share their day with, including marital counsellors, some relatives, colleagues and close friends. “We don’t have any regrets on how everything turned out however, we regret not inviting the people who we really wanted to be there,” he said.

They managed to save money through people in their community offering to make various contributions, which made the day extra special to them. “A friend of ours in Long street offered to tailor make our wedding attire which was such a blessing,” he added.

The couple got married on Heritage Day, September 24 in a small church in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, where they are from. The wedding cost them R6 000 and they have no regrets.

They used the rest of their money to put a deposit on their brand-new car and went on a lovely island honeymoon in Thailand.

There are all kinds of unique wedding traditions across the world, some of them rather strange. We compiled a list of the eight oddest we have come across.

Banging on the wedding night in France

    Source: Twitter

This may not be the kind of banging you would expect on the wedding night. Family and friends gather outside the house of newlyweds to bang on pots and pans. The couple then also serves their guests drinks and snacks. This age-old French tradition is known as Charivari.

    Fat arms in Mauritania

In Mauritania, brides work towards becoming chubbier in preparation for their weddings, as it is believed to be a good luck charm in their tradition.

The groom is beat with fish in Korea

South Koreans believe that in order to make the groom ready for the first night of the marriage, his feet should be beaten by dead fish and bamboo sticks.

    Scotland’s “Blackening Ritual”

    Source: The Scotsman

This age-old tradition involves family and friends showering the couple with all sorts of disgusting things and then tie them to a tree. This is done to help the bride and groom prepare them for anything life throws their way.

Crying for a month before the wedding

    Source: Twitter

Chinese brides have to cry every day for an hour for the entire month leading up to their wedding. For the Tujia people in China, crying ushers in a good wedding or life event.

    Stealing brides

    Source: Pixabay

In some small villages in Germany, grooms aren’t guaranteed that their brides will make it to the altar on time, or at all. Kidnapping the bride is an old custom, beloved by pranksters, and carried out by friends of the betrothed-to-be. The locals might provide clues for the groom as to where his bride is, provided they are invited to the wedding. If they do not receive an invite, however, custom demands that the brideless groom pick up the bar tab – for the entire pub.

    Carrying coins in shoes

    Source: Twitter

In Sweden, brides are decked out from head to toe in tradition. They often wear crowns made of myrtle flowers, which symbolise virginity, marital fidelity, and good luck on their heads. In their shoes, they tuck one coin each – a silver coin in the left shoe from their father, and gold one in the right from their mom. The coins symbolise hope for the couple’s marital prosperity.

Pin the cash on the bride

    Source: Pinterest

Weddings in Cuba are nonreligious civil ceremonies. Even so, they are often extravagant affairs, earmarked by interesting customs such as the “money dance”.

Meant to help fill the newlywed’s coffers, this tradition is also tons of fun for guests. After the formal ceremony’s pomp and circumstance is over, male wedding guests who wish to dance with the bride must first pin money to her dress.

Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki stepped off the court and walked down the aisle in a ceremony worthy of high praise.

The blushing bride shared the first look at the behind the scenes bits and pieces that went into making her big day possible – from dress details to pictures at her wedding venue.

Most impressive was how she custom-created the event to include her sporty personality.

Wozniacki and her now husband, former professional basketball player David Lee, were even named sports’ most romantic couple by Vogue this year – it’s so easy to see why.

She wore an Oscar del la Renta dress that perfectly matched the dreamy setting of the castle ruins at the idyllic Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany. The details of her dress were handsown and it fit her like a glove. The ethereal gown was embellished with cascading floral details and her train was perfectly designed to fit down the 262-foot long aisle.

The bid day was managed by event planner extraordinaire Alex Fitzgibbons of Fait Accompli, the very same company that managed Duke and Duchess of Cambridges’ and the Duke and Duchess of Sussexs’ phenomenal ceremonies.

The aisle was an extravagant show of drama lined with white roses and purple snapdragons, featuring two large urns overflowing with flowers. Fitzgibbons ensured the most dramatic entrance for the bride as the stone pathway that runs along the property was her entry point.

Caroline was escorted down the aisle by her father at exactly 6pm wearing a classic cathedral length tulle veil and diamond earrings and a bracelet by Ruchi New York.

The groom looked dashing in his Tom Ford suit and the pair said their vows in front of 120 close family and friends, including bridesmaids Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian.

As the fiery Tuscan sun started to dip, the couple were pronounced husband and wife.

After the ceremony guests made their way to an unforgettable cocktail bar set up and dinner commenced at 8pm. A sleek long table framed by a canopy of greenery intertwined with lights and candles welcomed guests.

A three-course Italian dinner was served during speeches.

The bridesmaids wore mint green ensembles with designs to suit each one’s personal style.

Wozniacki and Lee took to the floor for the first time as husband and wife to the classic some “Love Someone” and an evening of unforgettable happiness and love ensued.
